Harmal is a poor, barren world with no overt population, government, or law level.
- This world could be populated if anyone had an inclination to do so...
- This dangerous world is designated an Amber Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions make it dangerous to visitors.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Abidal Subsector of Halcyon Sector.
Astrography and Planetology
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
- The Harmal system is uninhabited. It lends its name to the section of the Border Rifts in which it is located.
- The system lies within a "shoal" region called Unstable Space. Travel to the system presents a considerable risk to starships.

System Data
Utreli-Harmal System
The primary is Utreli, a huge orange giant star. It has a luminosity of 3.042 Sols, a mass of 4.4 Sols and a diameter of 36.7 million km – the star's corona extends out to 0.12 AU. The inner system consists of (I) a hot large gas giant orbiting very close to the surface of the star, (IV) a vacuum worldlet, and (V) a vacuum worldlet – orbital positions (II) and (III) are empty. (VI) Harmal orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (VII) a thin atmosphere hospitable world, (VIII) an exotic atmosphere stormworld, (X) a vacuum iceworld and (XI) an exotic atmosphere bigworld – orbital position (IX) is empty. All of the outer worlds retain satellites.
Mainworld Data
(VI) Harmal
(VI) Harmal is designated the mainworld. It orbits Utreli at a mean distance of 5.1 AU (763 million km), it has an orbital period of 5 years 179 days and a rotation period of 12 days 8 hours. The axial tilt is 27 degrees. Harmal has a diameter of 5,613 km, a density of 4.28 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.34 G. Its atmosphere is rated as Thin, with a mean surface pressure of 0.45 bar and a composition of 82% nitrogen (N2), 17% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 27% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.1m. Mean surface temperature: 39°C. The atmosphere is slow and weather systems, driven by the star, crawl across the globe. The climate is seasonal.
Mainworld Geography and Topography
Total surface area: 99 million km², Land surface area: 92 million km², Water surface area: 7 million km². Equatorial regions are hot and arid, while temperate zones are warm and dotted with small lakes and occasional larger seas. Polar regions are cool and see seasonal ice and snow. The highest peaks are concentrated in the Parastola mountains, extending from the northern pole to the southern pole in a single continuous range.
Native Lifeforms
Harmal, the mainworld, has extensive native life, consisting of microscopic organisms, stromatolite-parallels and primitive flora that can be found in almost every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal. Most lifeforms are found within the warm seas and are primarily microscopic in nature. A variety of organisms similar to lichens, molds and fungi have colonised land areas with sources of water.
The cold marginally hospitable world has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and moisture. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.
History & Background (Dossier)
No information yet available.
World starport
Harmal has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
World technology level
Harmal possesses a Technology Level of TL–0.
- These worlds often contain a Proto-Sophont species beginning to establish a nascent civilization and society.
- This world is in its Alpha Period and has not yet been interfered with by a higher technology civilization.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Bodily communicative apparati, courier-runners, and smoke signals.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Bodily muscle.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Bodily locomotion, riding beasts, and litters or sedan chairs.
- Water: Swimming, rafts, and canoes.
- Air: Typically not available unless a bodily ability.
World government
Harmal has no central government for the world, an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.
