Grady is a ring of many small worldlets (planetoids AKA an "asteroid belt"), not capable of retaining an atmosphere or water, and nonindustrial in nature.
- These worldlets warrant hazardous environment precautions.
- Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
- The worldlets require extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the McKenzie Subsector of Alpha Crucis Sector in the Domain of Sol.
- The Grady Belt is mineral-rich and since 1099 has been subject to heavy-handed exploitation by the Imperial Megacorporation Sternmetal Horizons. This approach to competition has caused conflicts with local mining interests, triggering labor disputes and claim-jumping accusations.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)

Mainworld Data
The Grady Belt is a planetoid belt orbiting between 0.40 AU to 0.46 AU around the central star. The average diameter of asteroids in the belt at 1 km and can be as large as 10 km in diameter. Objects in the belt have a typical orbital period of 118 standard days.
Mainworld Size (S)
The Grady Belt is named after Grady Station built within an nickel-iron asteroid 8 km in diameter. The asteroid has been spun to a rotational gravity of 0.68g. Other smaller stations have been built on other large asteroids within the belt.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)
There are no atmosphere on any of the asteroids in the Grady Belt.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)
There are no natural sources of water within the Grady Belt.

World Government
Grady is a captured colony governed by the neighboring Port Royal system. An appointed council is selected by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Port Royal runs the executive and judicial functions of the colony. A largely powerless legislative body elected by the local inhabitants exists, but for all intents and purposes the laws of Grady are set by Port Royal.
World Economy
The Grade system exports the minerals mined from the belt to the industrial world of Fairday. It is forced to import industrial products from Fairday and argicultural products from New Paris.
World Demographics
The majority of the Grady population are generally of pure Solomani blood. A small minority of Vilani and other minor races settled in the belt when the Sternmetal Horizons corporation brought in contractors for mining and security work.
World Culture
The people of Grady are unique in a manner that only a society that lives in artificial habitats in an asteroid belt could be. They have developed their own language, which is a creole mixture of Terran languages. The individual is considered a small part of a community where each member is expected to respect and protect each other from the hazards of the vacuum. As a result the society is very welcoming to outsiders and slow to act with aggression.
A common sight in the belt are elaborate facial piercings with jewelry made from the iron and nickel mined in the belt. These piercings are used to indicate membership to specific social cliches.
Historical Data
The mineral-rich belt attracted the attention of the Sternmetal Horizons megacorporation in 1099. When they moved into the belt they used aggressive measures to drive local mining companies into bankruptcy and brought in off world mercenaries to suppress labor unions.
Civilian rule was planned to be implemented in 1104, but the tensions caused by the actions of Sternmetal created an environment ripe for Solomani agitators to stoke anti-Imperial feelings. The reversion to civilian rule has been repeatedly postponed due to the tensions leading to even higher tensions.
