Description (Specifications)

The Gonzans resemble Humaniti barely in being bipedal and mammalian, but the resemblance ends there. They are hexadigital in feet and hands, and both sport fearsome claws. Gonzans have a short elephantine trunk, like a tapir, and boar-like tusks. Their eyes are black and pupilless with a defensive nictating membrane. The species is also covered from head to toe-claw in a thick coat of slate gray and black fur, an adaptation to their planet's fierce storms and frigid winters. Gonzans are omnivores, and when game meat is scarce make do eating the few edible shrubs and bushes.

Their average lifespan is 80 Terran years.

History & Background (Dossier)

The Gonzans had existed at TL–1 on their mountain-topped islands and plateaus peacefully, and were only made aware of the Collapse through oral histories recalling when the Third Imperium Humans of the Imperial Interstellar Scout Service xeno-biology base passed away between 1160 and 1165. The Gonzans began working with smelting of mined metals, making bronze and iron tools, achieving TL–2 before the RCES made contact with them in late 1204 or early 1205.

Technology

Intermittent contact during the Collapse with stranded Zhukh' shabir (Star Climbers) gave them insights required to begin their own metal working, and forge tools from abandoned examples, reaching TL–2 in the 1100s.

Government

Despite their technological backwardness, they have enjoyed an enlightened society of representational democracy since at least 350, when Third Imperial Scouts had them interdicted.
