Gomer (Ha 2914) is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.

  • In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Abidal Subsector of Halcyon Sector.

System data

The system primary is Holland, an ordinary yellow main sequence star. The inner system consists of (I, II) two hot rocky vacuum worlds. (III) Prinz, a large exotic atmosphere world orbits within the habitable zone: (IIIa) Gomer is its major satellite and is nominated as the mainworld. (IV) a dense stony planetoid belt, (V, VI) two large gas giants, (VII, VIII) two large icy worlds, (IX) a small gas giant, and (X) a sparse icy planetoid belt form the outer system. Most of the large worlds retain families of satellites.

(III) Prinz

Prinz orbits holland at a mean distance of 0.7 AU (103.5 million km), with an orbital period of 75 days 18 hours and a rotation period of 23.25 hours. It is designated as the mainworld. It has a diameter of 7813 km, a density of 5.32 g/cm³ and a surface gravity of 0.59 G. It retains an atmosphere rated as standard, tainted, with a surface pressure of 0.85 bar and a composition of 88% nitrogen, 11% oxygen, and 1% argon, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. The atmospheric taint is caused by the low percentage of oxygen and by relatively high levels of background radiation. Around 9% of the surface is covered in lakes and seas of heavily saline liquid water. Tidal stresses caused by the gravitational pull of Lostallo cause occasional seismic activity. The climate is seasonal and weather patterns follow regular cycles during the local year. Jejant is generally cold and dry, with temperatures averaging around 6ºC. Equatorial temperatures are marginally higher whilst the poles are substantially colder. The atmosphere is relatively turbulent and enormous storms carrying large amounts of dust roll across the world.

is a small gas giant that orbits Juno at a mean distance of 0.7 AU and has an orbital period of 1 year 29.5 days. It has a diameter of 52,000km and is a heavily banded deep green colour. It retains a family of four major satellites of which the third, (IIIc) Jejant, is designated the system mainworld. Huge storms, sometimes covering as much as a fifth of the surface of the gigantic planet, occasionally rise from deep within the interior and mix the bands into swirls.

(IIIa) Gomer

(IIIa) Gomer is the satellite of world and is designated the mainworld. It orbits world at a mean distance of 45 diameters (X million km), it has an orbital period of XX days XX hours and a rotation period of 35.5 hours. The axial tilt is 12 degrees. Gomer has a diameter of 9,948 km, a density of 6.41 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.87 G. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, with a mean surface pressure of 0.39 bar and a composition of 75% nitrogen, 24% oxygen, and 1% argon, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. Approximately 53% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 1m. Mean surface temperature: 28°C. The atmosphere is dynamic and weather systems, driven by the star and the oceans, sweep across the globe. The climate is seasonal and weather patterns follow regular cycles during the local year.

Mainworld geography and topography

Total surface area: 311 million km², Land surface area: 165 million km², Water surface area: 146 million km².

History & Background (Dossier)

World starport

Gomer (Ha 2914) has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Gomer (Ha 2914) possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World government

Gomer (Ha 2914) is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. The bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucracy or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence like the military.
