Gevel is an agricultural, nonindustrial, pre-rich garden world with a near-ideal, utopian environment conducive to most sophonts, but still lacks an adequate population to expand its economy to a rich status.

  • As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • Its economy and population are rapidly growing and living conditions are expected to quickly rise barring outside forces.
  • This is a "low technology" world with technology competencies well below technology standards for Charted Space.
  • This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Liradi Subsector of Gulf Sector.

System Data

Malaset-Gevel System

The system primary is Malaset, an ordinary yellow-white main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 1.667 Sols, a mass of 1.091 Sols and a diameter of 1.535 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a vacuum worldlet, (II) a vacuum worldlet, and (III) an exotic atmosphere radworld. (IV) Gevel orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (V) a small gas giant, (VI) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (VII) a large gas giant, (VIII) a trace atmosphere iceworld, (IX) a vacuum iceworld, and (X) an exotic atmosphere bigworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(IV) Gevel

(IV) Gevel is designated the mainworld. It orbits Malaset at a mean distance of 1.06 AU (159 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 381 days 15 hours and a rotation period of 22.5 hours. The axial tilt is 15 degrees. Gevel has a diameter of 11,002 km, a density of 5.66 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.88 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of its two close moons cause regular geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, with a mean surface pressure of 0.92 bar and a composition of 77% nitrogen (N2), 21% oxygen (O2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 64% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.4m. Mean surface temperature: 15°C. The climate is rated as Temperate-Prime and experiences moderate seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is dynamic and powerful weather systems, driven by the star and the oceans, sweep across the globe.

Satellites

Gevel retains two natural satellites, a vacuum worldlet named Asta and a heavily cratered vacuum worldlet named Bester:

(IVa) Asta (UWP Y100000-0, orbiting at 7 diameters/75,000 km)
(IVb) Bester (UWP Y200000-0, orbiting at 8 diameters/85,000 km)

Mainworld Atmosphere

Gevel has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. A Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear and will likely be easy for most sophonts to breathe.

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Total surface area: 381 million km², Water surface area: 244 million km², Land surface area: 137 million km².

Native Lifeforms

Malaset-Gevel System

Gevel, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Flora grows in profusion and tends towards tall bundles of stems bound together with runners, with large flat leaves predominantly of a pale green colour. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal. Most fauna tend to follow the body pattern Bilateral HS-TB-LN-LN-T, with skeletal interiors, blood fluids and leathery hides. Apex organisms are generally gigantic, massing tens of tons.

No other world in the system is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Gevel has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Gevel possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.

World government

Gevel is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be monarchy, with titles passed to family members. Or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Or the organization may be more typical organization with positions of power inherited.
