Genesti is a nonindustrial water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water.
- The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- This is a "low technology" world with technology competencies well below technology standards for Charted Space.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Genesti Subsector of Far Home Sector.
- Genesti is a Voluntarily Regressive World
Astrography and Planetology

System data
The primary is Skoric, a yellow-white giant star. It has a luminosity of 48.6 Sols, a mass of 3 Sols and a diameter of 9.35 million km. Skoric's inner system consists of (I, II) two small rocky vacuum worlds, (IV) an exotic atmosphere world, (V) a large thin atmosphere world, and (VI) an exotic atmosphere world – orbital position (III) is empty. (VII) Genesti orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (VIII) a dense rocky planetoid belt, and (IX) a rocky vacuum world form the outer system. Many of the within the system retain satellites.
(VII) Genesti
(VII) Genesti is designated the mainworld. It orbits Skoric at a mean distance of 5.21 AU (779 million km), it has an orbital period of 6 years 316 days and a rotation period of 35 hours. The axial tilt is 10 degrees. Genesti has a diameter of 14,164 km, a density of 5.16 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 1.22 G. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 1.09 bar and a composition of 77% nitrogen, 22% oxygen, and 1% argon, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. The taint is caused by airborne microorganisms that can cause serious respiratory issues if inhaled. Approximately 99.8% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges are around 1.5m. Mean surface temperature: 31°C. The atmosphere is dynamic and local weather systems, driven by the star and the oceans, work their way across the globe. The climate is seasonal and weather patterns follow regular cycles during the local year.
Satellite
Genesti retains a single natural satellite, a thin atmosphere world named Gassada.
- (VIIa) Gassada (UWP Y523000-0, orbits at 25 Diameters/355,000 km)
Mainworld geography and topography
Total surface area: 630 million km², Land surface area: 1.3 million km², Water surface area: 628.7 million km². Almost the whole of the world is open ocean, with only a few islands and chains of archipelagos. The largest island is Drydown, a dormant volcanic peak.
Native lifeforms
Genesti has extensive native life. Much of the surface is covered in floating mats of vegetation, anchored to the seabed by long tethers, which can cover millions of square kilometers of open sea. Their metabolic functions power the process of atmospheric renewal. The majority of aquatic fauna follows the body pattern Bilateral TSB-FF-FN-T, with bony interiors, lymph fluids, and scaly exteriors. Aquatic lifeforms can grow to immense size. Flying fauna follows the body pattern Bilateral HS-TB-WN-LN-T, with bony interiors, lymph fluids, and skin exteriors.
History & Background (Dossier)
No information yet available.
World starport
Genesti has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World technology level
Genesti possesses a Technology Level of TL–3.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Printing press, the mechanical telegraph, and the first audio recordings.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Coal or other simple hydrocarbon fuels and early steam engines.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Bicycles and early steam coaches with advanced roadways.
- Water: Advanced sailing and early steam engine ships.
- Air: The earliest hot air balloons.
World government
Genesti is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be monarchy, with titles passed to family members. Or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Or the organization may be more typical organization with positions of power inherited.
