Skoric-Genesti System

The primary is Skoric, a yellow-white giant star. It has a luminosity of 48.6 Sols, a mass of 3 Sols and a diameter of 9.35 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a vacuum worldlet, (II) a vacuum inner world, (IV) an exotic atmosphere stormworld, (V) a very thin atmosphere inner world, and (VI) Genesti, designated the mainworld – orbital position (III) is empty. (VII) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world orbits within the habitable zone. (VIII) a dense stony planetoid belt, and (IX) a vacuum iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

(VII) Genesti

(VII) Genesti is designated the mainworld. It orbits Skoric at a mean distance of 5.21 AU (779 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 6 years 316 days and a rotation period of 35 hours. The axial tilt is 10 degrees. Genesti has a diameter of 14,164 km, a density of 5.16 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 1.22 G. The world is geologically very active. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 1.09 bar and a composition of 78% nitrogen (N₂), 19% oxygen (O₂), 1% carbon dioxide (CO₂), and 1% argon (Ar), carbon dioxide (CO₂), sulfur dioxide (SO₂), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by gases of volcanic origin (primarily carbon dioxide (CO₂), sulfur dioxide (SO₂), and carbon monoxide (CO)nbsp;) and can cause serious health problems if breathed. Approximately 99.8% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 1.5m. Mean surface temperature: 31°C. The climate is rated as Hot and experiences moderate seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is dynamic and strong weather systems driven by the star and the oceans surge across the globe.

Satellite

Genesti retains a single natural satellite, a very thin atmosphere hospitable world named Gassada:

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Total surface area: 630 million km², Water surface area: 628.7 million km², Land surface area: 1.3 million km². Almost the whole of the world is open ocean, with the only land area consisting of a few islands and chains of archipelagos. All of the islands on the world are volcanic in origin and most are still active. A tiny icecap, anchored to a large caldera, exists at the south pole: the northern polar regions never see ice form. Around the equator is a vast submerged plateau, covering an area of around 94 million km², almost a sixth of the surface of the planet. The largest island is Drydown, made up of a series of active but currently dormant volcanic peaks lying on the extreme north western edge of the plateau.

There are more than 3000 active volcanoes on Genesti, with about half of them below the sea and the others forming the land surface area. Geological data indicates that the world underwent a prolonged period of severe volcanism around 17,000 years ago, marked by the release of significant quantities of greenhouse gases. Prior to this, the world had a far colder climate and the waters that now form its world-ocean were locked into permanent large icecaps. The greenhouse gases raised global temperatures, melted the ice and flooded the world: this is termed the "Deluge" period of Genesti history. The climate and weather have stabilised since those traumatic events and the world shows no sign of returning to its icy pre-Deluge condition.

Native Lifeforms

Skoric-Genesti System

Genesti, the mainworld, has extensive native life. Around a fifth of the surface is covered in floating mats of vegetation, anchored to the seabed by long stems. Each colony can cover millions of square kilometers of open sea and each is host to a complex and varied ecosystem. Their metabolic functions power the process of atmospheric renewal. The majority of aquatic fauna follows the body pattern Bilateral N-TSB-FF-FN-T, with bony interiors, lymph fluids, and scaly exteriors. Aquatic lifeforms can grow to immense size and stories about carnivorous deep ocean leviathans persist. Flying fauna follows the body pattern Bilateral HS-TB-WN-LN-T, with bony interiors, lymph fluids, and skin exteriors. All species on the world are tolerant of the atmospheric taint. Humans can digest local lifeforms without problems, though they taste unpleasant and care must be taken as some species contain powerful toxins.

• Gassada, Genesti's hot marginally hospitable moon has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and moisture. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.

Genesti has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair.
