Garin is a high-population, industrial world with a billion or more sophonts in population size.
- As an industrial world, this planet has well-developed manufacturing and processing industries. Manufactured goods are a major export item.
- Its economy is rapidly growing and living conditions are expected to rapidly improve barring outside forces.
- It is a member of the Firstworlds in the Esqua Subsector of Far Home Sector.
- This world-system hosts a Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces, which may be located on or off-world.
Astrography and Planetology
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
- It is a part of the Risa Cluster.

System Data
Euleus-Garin System
The primary is Euleus, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.0334 Sols, a mass of 0.4574 Sols, and a diameter of 711,000 km. (I) Garin orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (II) a trace atmosphere worldlet, (III) a sparse icy planetoid belt, (IV) a small gas giant, (V) a small ice giant, and (VI) a vacuum iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
- The star experiences periodic flare activity.
Jubal Subsystem
The companion is Jubal, an ordinary red main sequence star lying approximately 330 AU (49.4 billion km) from Euleus. It has a luminosity of 0.0202 Sols, a mass of 0.3942 Sols, and a diameter of 604,000 km. (I) a vacuum iceworld, (II) a vacuum iceworld, (III) a large gas giant, (IV) a sparse icy planetoid belt, and (V) a small gas giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
- The star experiences periodic flare activity.
- The two stars have similar masses and orbit a barycenter located at around 142.2 AU (orbital position (XII), 2.13 billion km). They have an orbital period around one another of approximately 1,800 years.
Mainworld Data
(I) Garin
(I) Garin is designated the mainworld. It orbits Euleus at a mean distance of 0.17 AU (25.4 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 40 days 19 hours: it is tidally locked to Euleus. The axial tilt is 2 degrees. Garin has a diameter of 6,377 km, a density of 6.79 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.62 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Euleus cause frequent geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.58 bar and a composition of 82% nitrogen (N2), 16% oxygen (O2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% Xenon (Xe), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the low percentage of atmospheric oxygen and the relatively high levels of background radiation caused by stellar flare activity: emission rates exceed 1 rad per hour. Approximately 52% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water and vast sheets of water-ice: average tidal ranges exceed 0.4m. Mean surface temperature: 33°C. The climate is Hot and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is active and strong weather systems driven by the star and the seas sweep across the globe.
Mainworld Geography and Topography
Total surface area: 128 million km², Water surface area: 67 million km² (of which Ice: 12 million km²) Land surface area: 61 million km². The bright face of Garin is largely open ocean and is named the Sea of Vapors. The dark face is largely arid and rugged, with cold temperatures, permanent glaciers and broad ice sheets. The twilight region of the world is dominated by multiple large islands and archipelagos surrounded by the warm waters of the Godsend Sea. The highest point on the world is Mount Spiral (15,600 km above the mean surface level), which lies within the Whitestrata Mountains, deep within the dark face.
- Garin is a Twilight Zone World. All of the ice is concentrated on the dark face of the world.
- The world experiences libration, which causes the star to move in the sky and periodically rise and fall above the horizon in the twilight region.
Native Lifeforms
Euleus-Garin System
Garin, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting most ecological niches: only the most distant regions of the dark face lack life. Flora is prolific and abundant and tends to grow in broad fibrous clusters. Foliage is generally flat and blade-shaped and primarily very dark green in color. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal. Fauna follows a wide variety of body patterns but the prevalent form is Bilateral HS-TB-LL-LN-T, with exoskeletons, ichor fluids and leathery exteriors. Most native organisms have a unpleasant metallic flavor and a slimy texture and cannot be digested by humans without extensive processing. All native organisms are radiation-tolerant but still seek shelter during peaks in stellar flare activity.
No other world in the system is known to have native life.
Jubal Subsystem
No world in the subsystem is known to have native life.

World starport
Garin has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- Peace footing (government modifier x1.15). Port Capacity: 1,150,000 dTons
World technology level
Garin possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land & Water: Grav belts and maturing gravcraft.
- Air: Greatly improved hybrid grav-aircraft.
- Space: Improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-1.
World government
Garin is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.
