Named Apishlun by the Vilani, they did not recognize that the unique array of lifeforms here were not individual species, but rather an integrated whole.
Settled around -3900, the first Vilani colonists noticed that the world was unusually welcoming.
During the Interstellar Wars, the Terrans with their stronger grounding in biological sciences, believed that the planet could be a world-mind. When conquered, the Terrans renamed the world Gaea after the world mind theory.
Gaea never became a majority-Solomani world, despite Terran immigration during the Interstellar War and Rule of Man, and this was a problem for the world during the forming of the Solomani Sphere.
Pro-Imperial during the Solomani Rim War, Gaea was liberated by the Imperium in 1001. Today, Gaea remains Pro-Imperium in stance.
Local society is dominated by a Vilani culture, including the Solomani population, and the world has a pseudo-religious reverence for the Gaean biosphere.
