The Fuzzies are bipedal, shaggy-looking, man-sized, humanoid beings which live in packs deep in the Enaaka (Deneb 0203) jungles. These creatures are considered to be almost certainly completely mythical by most people, legendary beings akin to the terran Yetis of old, since insects are the highest form of animal life known on Enaaka.

Biology (Physical Sophontology)

Fuzzies are in fact the descendants of Vilani colonists on Enaaka. These humans acquired a disease similar to "whitefuzz", which left their bodies completely covered by long silky gray fungal "hair", which makes them look like shambling, fast-moving sloths.

The infection was beneficial in that it gave them immunity to most other fungal spores in the environment. The original victims passed on their infection, and the immunity, to their children.

Over several thousands of years, they have regressed completely to an almost prehuman level. It is possible that the fungal infection has somehow interfered with their higher brain functions.

Capture of one of these creatures could yield clues to the nature of the fungal toxins which afford protection against other fungus infections. By isolating this toxin, drug manufacturers could one day develop an inoculation which would protect Enaaka's inhabitants from "deathfuzz", "the "ghastly death", and other natural hazards of the Enaakan environment.

Anatomy & Physiology (Phenotype)

Sophontologists studying this species have discovered the following data.

Body Plan (Morphology)

  • Humanoid
  • Bilateral symmetry (2-ial)
  • Tetrapod (4-ped)
    • Two limbs used for manipulation "arms"
      • Former brachiator (still capable climber)
    • Two limbs used for locomotion (biped) "legs"
  • Body consists of three segments
    • Head with sensors and multiple-use orifice (consumption, communication, and respiration)
    • Torso with manipulatory limbs
    • Abdomen with locomotor limbs
  • Silky gray fungus "hairs" all over

Diet & Trophics (Consumption)

This species survives using the following methods of consumption:

  • Omnivore/hunter-gatherer
    • Eating fungi, vegetation, and insects.

Gender & Sexuality

"Humans" have the following reproductive characteristics::

  • Two genders (male & female)
    • Mild sexual dimorphism
  • (sexual reproduction)
    • Conjugal intercourse
    • Varied mating systems (primarily serial monogamy) (1m:1f average)
  • Viviparous birth
    • (Iteroparous): Uses K-selection and have few offspring that require considerable amounts of time to raise to maturity.

Culture and Society

Fuzzies are extremely territorial in nature, they attack other colonies which might pose a threat. They perceive normal humans as other tribes trespassing in their territory, and will attack using teeth, claws, and clubs.
