The Subcompact Ground Car is a type of Ground Car.

Description / Specifications[edit]

The Subcompact Ground Car is a very small vehicle designed for the civilian market.

Hull / Suspension[edit]

A boxy, generally streamlined hull constructed from steel and plastic.

  • Length: 3.5m, Width: 1.4m, Height: 1.5m.
  • Overall Volume: approximately 7.8m³ (0.6 dTons).
  • Unloaded Weight: 800 kg.

The overall volume measures the vehicles maximum dimensions and includes road clearance. The enclosed volume of the contoured hull is substantially lower.

The vehicle is fitted with a wheeled suspension system.

  • The vehicle performs well on metalled surfaces but has a minimal off-road capability.

Power / Transmission[edit]

A small internal combustion power plant using hydrocarbon fuel. The fuel is contained within a small protected tank.

Performance[edit]

  • Cruise Speed: 70 kph, Top Speed: 95 kph. Off-road Speed: less than 20 kph.
  • Range: 900 km at Cruise Speed, 700 km at Top Speed.

Crew / Passengers[edit]

The crew compartment consists of a centrally located enclosed cabin fitted with clear windows and containing two front seats and two rear seats – the accommodation is cramped, with barely enough space for the stated passenger capacity. The seating is fitted with safety belts. The vehicle has basic environmental protection (the hull is weatherproof but is not sealed) and is fitted with interior lights and air conditioning. The driver's position is fitted with basic mechanical controls. A console provides data such as engine temperature and velocity.

A small luggage trunk is located at the rear of the vehicle.

  • Cargo Storage: 0.2m³. If the rear seats are stowed flat the internal cargo storage becomes 2.8m³, but only the driver and one passenger may be accommodated.
  • Maximum Load: 320 kg (including passengers) before performance is dramatically impaired.

Equipment[edit]

Headlights and running lights. A small (typically 50 km range) radio receiver.

History / Background[edit]

An extremely cheap vehicle with minimal creature comforts, available in a variety of body styles and colors. Vehicles of this kind are produced in vast numbers and are broadly available (at extremely competitive prices) from showrooms in almost any urban area.
