Description / Specifications
The Ship’s Boat is designed to rapidly ferry passengers and incidental cargoes between locations. Similar designs have been in use from the time the Distant Fringe was first settled.
- The vessel is a TL 9 design.
Hull
The Ship’s Boat is constructed using a 40-dTon hull built in a generally cone-shaped configuration. The hull is fully streamlined: the ship is equipped with fuel scoops.
- Individual sections of the ship are divided by bulkhead walls. Sections of the ship can be isolated in the event of an emergency.
- The hull includes internal grav plates and inertial compensators. All accessible sections of the hull have life support.
Engineering
The vessel mounts a maneuver-4 drive and a power plant 4, giving performance of 4G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 4. There is fuel tankage of 1.3 dTons, giving the power plant three weeks duration.
Main Section
The vessel is equipped with a computer model/1 and a pilot’s acceleration couch. There is 1 small stateroom and 50 passenger acceleration couches. If the passenger couches are removed the craft has a cargo capacity of 25 dTons.
- The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, a basic sensor array, and an avionics suite.
Crew
The Ship’s Boat requires 1 crew: a pilot. If the vessel is carried as a small craft, this individual serves as service crew aboard the parent vessel when not required for piloting duties.
Weapons
The ship has one triple sandcaster turret.

Cost
The basic cost of the vessel is MCr26.275.
- The ship is a standard design. Detailed architectural plans are widely available and no design fee is chargeable.
- If multiple examples of the design are ordered each vessel in the production run qualifies for a 20% discount, which reduces the price of each ship to MCr21.020.
History
An ubiquitous design used throughout the Distant Fringe, the Ship's Boat is fast, durable and robust. The design is representative and a large number of variants exist, particularly with regard to the allotted weapons systems, onboard electronics, and the fit out of internal spaces.
