The Reefer Wagon is a Railroad Vehicle. It requires a railroad network of the correct gauge to operate.
Description / Specifications
An enclosed cargo wagon designed to be towed by a railroad locomotive.
Hull / Suspension
An enclosed box-shaped hull constructed of wood and steel.
- Length: 13.6m, Width: 2.5m, Height: 3.9m.
- Overall Volume: approximately 133m³ (9.5 dTons).
- Unloaded Weight: 25,300 kg.
The overall volume measures the vehicles maximum dimensions and includes track clearance. The enclosed volume of the hull is lower.
The Reefer Wagon is fitted with wheels mounted in trucks, helping to distribute the weight and enabling it to traverse curves in the track.
- The vehicle is designed to operate on rail networks. The gauge (the distance between the inner faces of the two rails) for railroad networks within the Distant Fringe is generally 1.5m and most examples of the wagon are built to match that standard.
Power
The Reefer Wagon has an electrical generator and storage batteries that can independently power its onboard environmental systems for up to a day.
Performance
The Reefer Wagon is unpowered. It is moved by being coupled to a railroad locomotive.
- The Caboose is fitted with an automatic coupling system. The linkage also includes pressure hoses that connect to the locomotive and wagons.
Cargo
The body of the Reefer Wagon consists of an enclosed compartment with a volume of 65m³ (4.6 dTons). The vehicle has full environmental protection (the hull is sealed) and is fitted with full climate control. The cargo hold is accessed by sliding side doors.
- Cargo Storage: 63m³ (4.5 dTons).
- Maximum load: 68,700 kg.
- Maximum Gross Weight: 94,000 kg.
Equipment
Running lights.
History / Background
A wagon designed to provide special environmental conditions for cargo. Typically this is refrigeration.
