The Mobile Crane is a type of Ground Car.
Description / Specifications[edit]
The Mobile Crane is a large cargo transport vehicle designed for use by commercial organisations. Though it is a single vehicle it is divided into two parts – the Carrier and the Crane Module.
Hull / Suspension[edit]
The Carrier section has a generally box-shaped hull constructed from steel and plastic.

- Overall Volume: approximately 76.5m³ (5.7 dTons).
Crane Module and Boom (stowed)[edit]
A Crane Module is generally box-shaped and is constructed from steel and plastic. The boom is telescopic.

- Overall Volume: approximately 75.5m³ (5.6 dTons).
Combined Specifications[edit]

The overall volume measures the vehicles maximum dimensions (including the stowed telescopic boom) and includes road clearance. The enclosed volume of the contoured hull is substantially lower.
The vehicle is fitted with a wheeled suspension system mounted on a series of axles.
- The vehicle performs well on metalled surfaces but has a limited off-road capability.
Power / Transmission[edit]
A medium internal combustion power plant using hydrocarbon fuel. The fuel is contained within a protected tank.
Performance[edit]
- Cruise Speed: 60 kph, Top Speed: 85 kph. Off-road Speed: less than 20 kph.
- Range: 700 km at Cruise Speed, 450 km at Top Speed.
Crew[edit]
The crew compartment consists of an enclosed front mounted cabin fitted with clear windows and containing two front seats – an additional passenger can be accommodated though such arrangements are cramped. The seating is fitted with safety belts. The vehicle has basic environmental protection (the hull is weatherproof but is not sealed) and is fitted with interior lights and air conditioning. The driver's position is fitted with basic mechanical controls. A console provides data such as engine temperature and velocity.
- Cargo Storage: 2m³ (largely given over to tools and safety equipment).
- Maximum Load: restricted by internal volume only.
Equipment / Operations[edit]
Headlights and running lights. A small (typically 50 km range) radio communicator. A spotlight is fitted to the exterior of the cabin roof.
Crane Module[edit]
A module constructed on a rotating base: it is mounted centrally on the carrier deck and can turn through 360 degrees. Its structure includes the boom arm, a power plant, the hoist and associated machinery, and a small control cabin fitted with clear windows and containing a single seat. The operator's position is fitted with basic mechanical controls. A console provides data such as the boom angle. The module contains a a 28,000 kg ballast counterweight.
The crane is operated by a small stand-alone internal combustion power plant using hydrocarbon fuel. The fuel is contained within a protected tank.
- Crane Arm: a long hydraulically operated telescopic boom mounted within the crane module.
- Maximum Reach: up to 60m.
- Maximum Load: up to 100,000 kg (maximum load decreases relative to the reach of the boom: maximum load is reduced to 10,000 kg at maximum reach).
When the crane is in use a number of adustable outrigger legs are deployed from the carrier, giving the vehicle a flat operating surface and a much broader footprint.
