The Light Wagon is a Railroad Vehicle. It requires a railroad network of the correct gauge to operate.

Description / Specifications

A very basic cargo wagon designed for general use.

Hull / Suspension

A box-shaped open-topped hull constructed from iron, steel and wood.

  • Length: 4.5m, Width: 2.2m, Height: 2.8m.
  • Overall Volume: approximately 27.8m³ (2 dTons).
  • Unloaded Weight: 2,100 kg.

The overall volume measures the vehicles maximum dimensions and includes track clearance. The enclosed volume of the hull is lower.

The vehicle is fitted with wheels mounted on axles.

  • The vehicle is designed to operate on rail networks. The standard gauge (the distance between the inner faces of the two rails) for railroad networks within the Distant Fringe is generally 1.5m and most examples of the wagon are built to match that standard.

Power / Transmission

The open wagon has no internal power source.

Performance

Wagons are unpowered. They are moved by being coupled to a railroad locomotive, a beast of burden or to a static winch.

  • Light Wagons have a manually operated coupling system consisting of hooks and chains. The braking system consists of physically pushing a large lever against a wheel to cause friction.

Cargo

The body of the wagon consists of an open topped cargo hold with a volume of 12m³ (0.9 dTons).

  • Cargo Storage: 12m³ (0.9 dTons).
  • Maximum Load: 4,800 kg.
    • Maximum Gross Weight: 6,900 kg.

Equipment

Running lights. Some Light Wagons have been converted to passenger use by the addition of bench seats.

History / Background

A crude wagon designed to move bulk loads along railroad networks.
