Description / Specifications

A large cargo trailer designed to be towed by a Heavy Tractor Unit.

Hull / Suspension

A generally box-shaped alloy/composite material hull. Length: 24.2m, Width: 3.6m, Height: 4.8m. Unloaded Weight: 3900 kg.

  • External Volume: approximately 418.2m³ (30 dTons).
Note that the external volume measures the vehicles maximum dimensions and includes road clearance and the coupling for the Heavy Tractor Unit. The contained volume of the box section is lower.

The vehicle is fitted with wheeled suspension fitted on axles.

  • The vehicle performs well on metalled surfaces but has very limited off-road capability.

Power / Transmission

The trailer has no internal power source: it attaches to a Tractor Unit by way of a traction pin which fits into a "fifth wheel" coupling. The linkages also include power connectors, pressure hoses and control cables.

Performance Main traction as per the Tractor Unit towing it.

  • The rear axle assembly of the Trailer has a small booster power plant consisting of fuel cells and batteries. The power plant drives electric motors set into the axles.

Cargo

An enclosed internal cargo hold with a volume of 340m³ (24 dTons). Maximum load: 100,000 kg.

Equipment

Running lights. Basic environmental controls (the hull is weatherproof but is not sealed).

History / Background

A large commercial trailer for moving bulk loads along road networks.
