The Flatbed Wagon is a Railroad Vehicle. It requires a railroad network of the correct gauge to operate.
Description / Specifications
A flat-topped wagon designed to be towed by a railroad locomotive.
Hull / Suspension
A box-shaped hull constructed from wood or steel.
- Length: 17.1m, Width: 2.4m, Height: 1.9m.
- Overall Volume: approximately 78m³ (5.6 dTons).
- Unloaded Weight: 22,400 kg.
- Note that the overall volume measures the vehicles maximum dimensions and includes track clearance.
The vehicle is fitted with wheels mounted in trucks, enabling the vehicle to traverse curves in the track.
- The vehicle is designed to operate on rail networks. The gauge (the distance between the inner faces of the two rails) for railroad networks within the Distant Fringe is generally 1.5m and most examples of the wagon are built to match that standard.
Power / Transmission
The flatbed wagon has no internal power source.
Performance
Wagons are unpowered. They are moved by being attached to a railroad locomotive.
- Wagons are fitted with an automatic coupling system. At TL 5 the linkage also includes pressure hoses that connect to the locomotive and operate the wagons braking system.
Cargo
The body of the wagon consists of an open cargo deck on which it is possible to stack goods. It can carry bulky or unusual loads. Multiple tethering points set into the deck and hull allow the load to be secured.
- Cargo Storage: up to 112m³ (8 dTons).
- Maximum Load: 110,000 kg (gross weight 132,400 kg).
Equipment
Running lights.
History / Background
A wagon designed to move bulk loads along railroad networks.
