The Box Semitrailer is a type of Ground Car.
Description / Specifications
The Box Semitrailer is a large cargo trailer designed to be towed by a Tractor Unit.
Hull / Suspension
A generally box-shaped hull constructed from steel and plastic.
- Length: 12.2m, Width: 2.4m, Height: 3.4m.
- External Volume: approximately 99.5m³ (7.2 dTons).
- Unloaded Weight: 3900 kg.
The external volume measures the vehicles maximum dimensions and includes road clearance and the coupling for the Tractor Unit. The contained volume of the box section is lower.
The vehicle is fitted with a wheeled suspension system mounted on axles.
- The vehicle performs well on metalled surfaces but has very limited off-road capability.
Power / Transmission
The trailer has no internal power source: it attaches to a Tractor Unit by way of a traction pin which fits into a "fifth wheel" coupling. The linkages also include power connectors, pressure hoses and control cables.
Performance
- As per the Tractor Unit towing it.
Cargo
An enclosed internal cargo hold with a volume of 85m³ (6 dTons). Maximum load: 24,000 kg.
Equipment
Running lights. Basic environmental controls (the hull is weatherproof but is not sealed).
History / Background
A commercial trailer for moving bulk loads along road networks.
