Policy?[edit]

I have begun to understand that many of the articles like the one linked below are really User space pages in Article space. This one kindly redirected from User:Ronald B. Kline, Jr.. These also pollute article space with user subpages like Ronald B. Kline, Jr./layout templates1.

See Ronald B. Kline, Jr..

Had it been in User space I’d have left it alone, as it is in article space I think I have a duty to make it sound like an article. As an article I would do even more rewriting, reorganizing, and content removal too.

I think we should have a policy against this much as Wikipedia has a policy against me creating Wikipedia:Mark Ayers about my self or a Wikipedia:Mår Ekkertsen about my favorite Traveller character. I believe the reasons in support of this policy proposal are self evident but I am happy to defend the position and hear alternative positions.

Can’t touch this? —¿philoserf? (talk) 23:18, 11 July 2020 (EDT)
I this specific case (Ronald B. Kline, Jr.) I would agree with you. The Ronald B. Kline, Jr. page belongs in the User name space. Why it got redirected was not discussed in the wiki (much to everyone's dismay). I could make a guess.
As a general policy, we do want an article in the main namespace about the authors and other contributors to the Traveller publications. And these people may also be contributors at the wiki. I don't mind contributors writing their own author's pages. The reason for the Wikipedia policy is citations and verification, and the Traveller wiki doesn't have those same policies.
I have moved the page back into the user namespace, along with the sub-page.
