The Five States are five interstellar states that dominated the Sword Worlds Subsector during the 1st Century: The Gram Alliance, the Sacnoth Dominion, the Tizonian League, the Trailing Assembly, and the Double Monarchy.

History & Background (Dossier)
The era of the Five States is generally held to have begun in -11, when Gram built the first new jump-capable ship built anywhere in the Sword Worlds since the Fimbulwinter, even though the last of the five states was not established until 44.
The end of the era came in 104 with the balkanizations of Gram and Sacnoth and the establishment of the Triple Alliance.
