Fermi (De 1223) is a nonindustrial vacuum world, which warrants hazardous environment precautions.

  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or over technology standards for Charted Space.
  • It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Void (De J) Subsector of Delphi Sector in the Domain of Sylea.
  • This world has a nearby Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)

Imperial High (Landed) Nobility

Fermi (De 1223), as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Nobility overseeing the world.

World Starport

  • The starport has excellent facilities for repairs and overhauls on naval vessels returning from long patrols, but does not have the shipyard capacity for large scale manufacture. Getting access for civilian shipping is typically seen as a very low priority. The waiting lists are often long. The work however is flawless, of the highest quality and surplus military turrets can be installed at steep discounts. The government run yards are not overly concerned with profits.

World Technology Level

No information yet available.

World Government

The 80,000 citizens are governed by a self-perpetuating oligarchy of elite naval officers and landed nobles with their retinues.

  • Many of the naval officers are noble born and have private facilities. A combination of small space stations and surface bases are popular. A civilian service staff is considered essential for each noble household. These tiny baronies are expected to have at least one knight assigned for personal security and as an important status symbol.
  • A small proud tribal belter community ignores and resents the nobles and the navy. They are egalitarian and only interact when they have ice to sell to the powerful water merchant consortiums. Few outsiders visit their tiny insular asteroid outposts. Merchants passing through their belts have reported intercepting hauntingly beautiful musical compositions on low power radio broadcasts. Recordings of these are highly sought on some high population worlds in the Delphi Sector.

World Military

An imperial Naval Base is present with the 2079th BatRon of the 119th Fleet stationed here.

  • The moons have small naval outposts installed with deep meson gun sites, for defense. Automated orbital missile platforms are clustered around the naval facilities. The civilians' and contractors' down port facilities have little defensive effort expended for their welfare. Trans-border naval expeditions are of such importance that civilian shipping is often ignored as long as they stay well clear of the restricted zones surrounding the naval facilities. Industrial and defense contractor mega-corporations are trusted here and their paperwork is typically immaculate. Their freight moving through is only lightly checked by security and cargo robots with passive EMS scanners. Only the imports destined to stay in the system or on order for one of the noble's personal fiefs are meticulously inspected to a molecular level.

World Culture

Original colonial charters were secured by a group of exiled nobles who sought to reintegrate with the Third Imperium.

  • They used their influence with the sector naval command to get a naval base built on this remote outpost.
  • The existing "natives" were displaced and became belters once the nobles took procession of their land grants.
