Era: New Era

Fel is a barren fluid world with oceans of a liquid other than water such as ammonia, methane, or hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquids.

  • This world has no overt population, government, or law level.
  • This world could be populated if anyone had an inclination to do so... This world was once settled and developed, but the inhabitants have either died off or left leaving behind the remnants of their civilization. It is a unclaimed Non-Aligned world in the Million Subsector of Deneb Sector.

System Data

Fel is a close satellite of the gas giant Ozazghuegknaz. This orbits Ikoed every 83 standard days.[2]

n.b. Fel orbits inside the jump shadows of both the Gas Giant and the primary star

Mainworld Data

Mainworld Size (S)

Fel is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away. Fel is tidally locked with Ozazghuegknaz. It has an orbital period of about 16 days.[2]

Fel has an equatorial diameter of 11,210 km and a circumference of 35210km.

Fel's surface gravity is actually 1.1 G.[2] This means that much of its traffic has to be undertaken using the Highport in orbit about the planet as those ships with only 1G acceleration cannot land and take-off safely. Why the core is so much more dense than expected is not clear. The presence of the nearby Gas Giant would cause one to expect the surface gravity (per standard formation models) to have been at the lower end of the expected range - not well off the top of the high end.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

Fel has an Exotic Atmosphere and possesses an unusual gas mix which requires the use of oxygen tanks, but protective suits not necessary, but are recommended. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world. It has a dense ammonia-based atmosphere and a pressure of 1.9 atmospheres at sea level.[2]

It has an average temperature of 29 ºC.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

Fel has 65-75% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible. Ammonia seas cover 70% of its surface

Mainworld Geography & Topography

Fel has a number of small continents and one that spans from pole to pole. That latter continent encloses a freshwater sea of over 5,000,000 sq. km. The landforms are relatively low. No mountain over 4km high exists on the world, but the stresses of being so close to a Gas Giant do mean that there is considerable rifting. The world is volcanically active.

History & Background (Dossier)

Culture

This is a chaotic but friendly world with a distinct culture that doesn't map all that closely to that of the Imperium. It is quite possible for Imperial citizens to suffer from Culture Shock.

Not an Imperial world

World Starport

Summary

The Highport was extensive and included considerable ship assembly, maintenance and repair facilities.

1105

Fel has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport. Fel builds escorts, corvettes, gunships and cruisers for the UFA. Primarily, however, it builds Jump-1 and Jump-2 freighters, which the UFA uses to ferry finished goods between member worlds and across the border to Million, Khouth and Atsah Subsectors.

1200

Fel does not have a starport. The Class X Starport is an indication that no starport exists in the system. There are no facilities or services available, and no site marked for landing. Destroyed 1143

World Technology Level

1105

Fel possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

1200

Fel possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

This is a Dieback World[3]

World Government

Summary

1105

Fel is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.

1200

Fel has no central government for the world, an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.

World Law Level

Summary

The law level is more effectively enforced with off-worlders than locals. Off-world travellers are advised not to copy local customs without caution as they will often result in legal difficulties.

1105

Fel has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All blade weapons and firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

1200

Fel has no law in practice. It is an Anarchy. On many worlds, this by itself justifies an Amber Zone advisory. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate.

World Military

1105: 150 Battalions

After 1143: None

World Economy

With Metals and Ores for the taking (if you can just distil seawater), Fel was a pre-industrial wonderland. Fel produced its own machinery and is largely self-sufficient[2].

Trade Data

Fel’s corporations do a steady business with Imperial systems and corporations. The world is a key supplier of finished materials to Talon. It imports a large quantity of foodstuffs[2].

World Demographics

1105: Fel has a population of 100,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).
Approx 600,000,000

  • 95%+ of the population is Aekhu Vargr
  • Under 5% of the population is Human
  • Lurent planetoid ships may be found in the inner system, trading, or in the system’s Oort clouds refuelling.

1119-[1143]]: The planet became a temporary stopover for large numbers of Human refugees from Corridor Sector but most did not wish to stay as the planet was in many ways no better than those from which they had fled - and in many ways much worse.

1200: Fel is a Barren World with no sophont population. It may still possess lifeforms.

World Culture

Hunting was a major preoccupation and there are extensive indoor hunting preserves. For offworld Vargr to be invited to hunt was an honour. For non-Vargr to be invited was rare.

Urbanization

The entire population of Fel can be considered urbanised as independent homesteads away from urban centres lacked the resilience needed for survival.

The world’s landmasses are dotted with a multitude of pack-based colonies of wildly varying size, established around either mines, refineries or factory complexes. They typically live in generous underground dens, topped by pressurised domes. Their living quarters would be considered claustrophobic to Humaniti but the park and garden domes are idyllic in their beauty.[2]

Historical Data

Early History

Fel was part of a small Vargr state (Ksekgizoksdhaerzluenoe) with Talon (Deneb 2704) and Aerfor (Deneb 3104) (and others) in 100. This state had split into two by 210 when Fel and Aerfor (Deneb 3104) had created the Sandherroerghdoe Kaefoulto while Talon (Deneb 2704) and Fosfog (Deneb 2702) remained in the Ksekgizoksdhaerzluenoe. The Vargr Campaigns broke up the states but Fel was again part of a larger group (the Kloellnugdhungkidztse) by 420, this time with Fosfog (Deneb 2702).

These states were all broken up by the First Frontier War, a conflict that saw raiders from Fel and other Vargr worlds encroaching as far as Taproban (Deneb 3008), but repulsed.

Later History

The Vargr Enclaves on the mainworld are united under a single world government, the Republic of Fel, a surprisingly strong bureaucracy bolstered by charismatic leaders. The Republic in turn is a member of the United Followers of Augurgh, an interstellar federation of Vargr border worlds.

A careful balance of mining and manufacturing made Fel a reliable source of quality minerals and refined ores, and it is a 'supply' world for the United Followers of Augurgh. Although it has an unbreathable atmosphere and a low interstellar Tech Level, its unusual political stability and industrial reliability has made its government wealthy. In 1116 it had a substantial military fleet of:

  • 2x War Squadron
  • 2x Smuggler Squadron
  • 2x Defence Squadron
  • 5x Mercenary Squadron
  • 50x Letter of Marque Privateers

Arrival of Virus

Virus arrived in 1143 as part of the wave that entirely eliminated the United Followers of Augurgh as a political entity. Fel's entire population was destroyed at that time.
