It is a member of Third Imperium in the Trin's Veil Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector and in the Domain of Deneb. Farquahar, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world. This world contains an Imperial Scout Base, capable of handling Scout Service starships and personnel.

The colony on Farquahar was originally founded by Dodds (Spinward Marches 2739) as an exiles camp, but the effect of the Three-Way War in 1102 forced the Imperium to transfer the colony management to Trin (Spinward Marches 3235).
