Farin is a poor, non-agricultural and industrial high-population hellworld with a billion or more sophonts in size who still struggle to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
  • It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
  • As an industrial world, this planet has well-developed manufacturing and processing industries. Manufactured goods are a major export item.
  • It is a member of the Esaran Cultural Area in the Farin Subsector of Halcyon Sector.
  • 100% of the population is made up of Esaran.

System Data[edit]

Emarro-Farin System[edit]

The primary is Emarro, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.04 Sols, a mass of 0.489 Sols and a diameter of 764,000 km. (I) Farin orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (II) a trace atmosphere worldlet, (III) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (IV) a ringed large gas giant, and (V) a sparse stony planetoid belt form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Zuzal Subsystem[edit]

The companion is Zuzal, an ordinary red main sequence star that lies approximately 79.4 AU from Emarro (orbital position (X), 11.9 billion km). It has a luminosity of 0.034 Sols, a mass of 0.457 Sols and a diameter of 711,000 km. (I) a dense atmosphere stormworld orbits within the habitable zone. (II) a vacuum worldlet, (II) a ringed small gas giant, (III) a small ice giant, and (IV) a sparse icy planetoid belt form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

  • The two stars orbit a barycenter located at around 5.9 AU (orbital position (VII), 882 million km) and have an orbital period around one another of 14 years 268 days.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(I) Farin[edit]

(I) Farin is designated the mainworld. It orbits Emarro at a mean distance of 0.21 AU (31.4 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 50 days 6 hours: it is tidally locked to Emarro. The axial tilt is 8 degrees. Farin has a diameter 7,785 km, a density of 5.65 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.63 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Emarro cause frequent geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.31 bar and a composition of 85% nitrogen (N2), 13% oxygen (O2), 1% carbon dioxide (CO2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the very low percentage of atmospheric oxygen. Approximately 18% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.5m. Mean surface temperature within the twilight zone: 24°C. The climate is rated as Temperate-Warm and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is sluggish and minor weather systems driven by the star drift across the globe.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

Total surface area: 190 million km², Land surface area: 156 million km², Water surface area: 34 million km².

  • Farin is a Twilight Zone World.
  • The world experiences libration, which causes the star to move in the sky and periodically rise and fall above the horizon in the twilight region.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Emarro-Farin System[edit]

Farin, the mainworld, has primitive extremophile native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that thrive in the harsh conditions. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

No other world in the system is known to have native life.

Zuzal Subsystem[edit]

The temperate stormworld lying in orbital position (I) (within its habitable zone) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that thrive in the harsh conditions. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

No other world in the subsystem is known to have native life.

History & Background / Dossier[edit]

Farin is an Esaran colony with a population that now exceeds that of the homeworld. The planet is marginally habitable: within the subsurface Cantons living space is at a premium. Each Canton is funding large-scale building programs and demand for construction materials is at an all-time high.

World Starport[edit]

Farin has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Technology Level[edit]

Farin possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government[edit]

Farin has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
