Esser is a low-population vacuum world, with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts in population size, warranting hazardous environment precautions.

  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Esser Subsector of Divide Sector.

Astrography and Planetology[edit]

This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.

System Data[edit]

Malesser-Esser System[edit]

The primary is Malesser, a huge red giant star. It has a luminosity of 2383 Sols, a mass of 7.85 Sols, and a diameter of 363 million km – the star's corona extends out to 1.21 AU, deeply within position (IV). The inner system consists of (VI) a vacuum worldlet, (VIII) a sparse stony planetoid belt, and (IX) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world – orbital positions (V) and (VII) are empty. (X) Kuril, an insidious atmosphere radworld, orbits within the habitable zone: (Xa) Esser is its only satellite and is designated the mainworld. (XI) an exotic atmosphere bigworld and (XII) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system. Many of the worlds in the system retain satellites.

(X) Kuril[edit]

(X) Kuril (UWP Y6C0000-0) is designated an inferno world. It orbits Malesser at a mean distance of 37.3 AU (5.6 billion km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 81 years 112 days and a rotation period of 33.5 hours. The axial tilt is 32 degrees. Kuril has a diameter of 10,234 km, a density of 7.32 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 1.06 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Insidious, with a mean surface pressure of 3.85 bar and a composition of 90% nitrogen (N2), 9% carbon dioxide (CO2), and 1% argon (Ar), xenon (Xe), abiotic oxygen (O2), carbon monoxide (CO), neon (Ne) and other trace gases: the surface and atmosphere have high levels of radiation: emission levels exceed 50 rads per hour. The world has no hydrosphere. Mean surface temperature: 304°C. The climate is rated as Inferno and experiences moderate seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is chaotic and violent weather systems, driven by the star, scour the globe.

Satellite[edit]

Kuril retains a single natural satellite:

(Xa) Esser (designated the mainworld, orbiting at 15 Diameters/154,000 km)

Mainworld Data[edit]

(Xa) Esser[edit]

(Xa) Esser is the only satellite of Kuril and is designated the mainworld. It orbits Kuril at a mean distance of 15 diameters (154,000 km). It has an orbital period of 6 days 11 hours: it is tidally locked to Kuril. The axial tilt is 3 degrees relative to Kuril. Esser has a diameter of 1,336 km, a density of 4.85 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.09 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Kuril cause frequent geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Vacuum. The world has no hydrosphere. Mean surface temperature: 112°C.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

Total surface area: 5.6 million km².

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Malesser-Esser System[edit]

No world in the system is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

No information yet available.

World starport[edit]

Esser has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level[edit]

Esser possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World government[edit]

Esser has no central government for the world, an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.
