Esil is a poor, nonindustrial hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
  • This is a "low technology" world with technology competencies well below technology standards for Charted Space.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Jerik Subsector of Halcyon Sector.

System Data

Marabar-Esil System

The primary is Marabar, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.04 Sols, a mass of 0.489 Sols, and a diameter of 764,000 km. (I-I) Esil, designated the mainworld, and (I-II) a very thin atmosphere radworld, have a shared orbit within the habitable zone. (II) an exotic atmosphere radworld forms the inner part of the outer system. Orbital positions (III) through (VII) are unavailable due to the presence of the companion star. (VIII-I) a dense icy planetoid belt, (VIII-II) a small gas giant, and (IX) a ringed large gas giant orbit the system's barycenter and form the outer part of the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

  • The star experiences periodic flare activity.

Onguth Subsystem

The companion is Onguth, an ordinary red main sequence star lying approximately 1.73 AU (orbital position (V), 258.8 million km) from Marabar. It has a luminosity of 0.0334 Sols, a mass of 0.4574 Sols, and a diameter of 711,000 km. (I-I) a very thin atmosphere radworld, and (I-II) a trace atmosphere radworld, have a shared orbit within the habitable zone. (II) a corrosive atmosphere bigworld forms the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

  • The star experiences periodic flare activity.
  • The two stars have similar masses and orbit a barycenter located at around 0.84 AU (orbital position (III), 125.7 million km). They have an orbital period around one another of 289 days 1 hour.

Mainworld Data

(I-I) Esil

(I-I) Esil is designated the mainworld. It orbits Marabar at a mean distance of 0.12 AU (17.9 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 21 days 17 hours: it is tidally locked to [primary]. The axial tilt is 2 degrees relative to Marabar. Esil has a diameter of 5,194 km, a density of 2.83 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.21 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Marabar cause frequent geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.55 bar and a composition of 80% nitrogen (N2), 18% oxygen (O2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), radon (Rn), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the high levels of background radiation: emission rates exceed 45 rads per hour. Approximately 22% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.3m. Mean surface temperature: 32°C. The climate is rated as Hot and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is dynamic and strong weather systems driven by the star and the seas sweep across the globe.

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Total surface area: 85 million km², Land surface area: 66 million km², Water surface area: 19 million km².

  • Esil is a Twilight Zone World.
  • The world experiences libration, which causes the star to move in the sky and periodically rise and fall above the horizon in the twilight region.

Native Lifeforms

Marabar-Esil System

Esil, the mainworld, has extensive radiation-tolerant native life, consisting of microscopic organisms, stromatolite-parallels and primitive flora that can be found in almost every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

The temperate radworld lying in orbital position (I-II) (within the habitable zone) has primitive radiation-tolerant native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that thrive in the harsh conditions. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

No other world in the system is known to have native life.

Onguth Subsystem

The temperate radworld lying in orbital position (I-I) (within the habitable zone) has extensive radiation-tolerant native life, consisting of minute multicellular organisms that can be found in most ecological niches.

No other world in the subsystem is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Esil has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Esil possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.

World government

Esil is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be monarchy, with titles passed to family members. Or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Or the organization may be more typical organization with positions of power inherited.
