The Epukish of Pukushik are a Minor Non-Human Race native to Tangal Subsector of Mavuzog Sector.
- They have a non-humanoid appearance.
- Their technological competency is rated as sophisticated.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
The Epukish are a Minor sophont species.
An adult Epukish measures around 2.5 meters in length and can rear up to as high as 3 meters for brief periods. They typically weigh around 200 kilograms.
Epukish are descended from omnivore / scavengers native to damp forests and wetlands.
- They are principally carrion eaters, with a specialist fungus consumption.
- They are facultative fungivores, not obligate.
- They will readily consume roots, fruit, and foliage, as well as any small live prey they can catch.
The tusks are used for turning over dirt rather than fighting, though they are used for both, and their proboscis picks thru whatever they excavate for roots, smaller creatures, carrion, and fungus.
- The mouth is located directly below the proboscis, between the tusks.
Ancestral Epukish were predated by large carnivores, the apex predators in their preferred native environment.
- The eyes are mounted on flexible stalks, which are independently moveable and provide 360 degrees of visual coverage.
- Their backs are covered in hard lumpy scales: these serve as armor, particularly against bites delivered by large carnivores.
Demographics[edit]
The total population of Epukish is estimated to be in excess of 1 billion individuals. The vast majority dwell on the homeworld.
General Psychology[edit]
Psychology[edit]
The Epukish exhibit recognized characteristics of intelligence:
- Conceptual thought, including abstract language.
- Social structure, including social organization.
- Tool use, allowing environmental manipulation.
Epukish psychology is driven by factors common to many sophonts:
- Acquisition (stemming from the need to gather adequate nutrition),
- Preservation (derived from the need to continue their personal existence), and
- Perpetuation (the urge to continue the species).
Native Culture[edit]
- Homogeneity: B (discordant)
- Acceptance: B (extremely friendly)
- Strangeness: 3 (somewhat typical)
- Symbols: C (very abstract)
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The Epukish are an advanced sophont species with a number of offworld settlements.
They are known for constructing high-quality starships but do not maintain their own space navy.
- Starmerc forces are hired to crew Epukish-built ships and defend Epukish territories and interests.
Timeline[edit]
- 300-420: the First Survey charts the Epukish homeworld.
- 995-1065: the Second Survey charts the Epukish homeworld.
- 1065: the Second Survey is published.
Astrography[edit]
This race is primarily located in the following areas:
Charted Space:
Homeworld[edit]
The homeworld of this race is:
- Pukushik (Mavuzog 2502), a rich world with a standard atmosphere.
A basic map of Pukushik.
World Listing[edit]
Comprehensive Second Survey data for all worlds associated with this race is available.
- The primary source material for all data is Traveller Map.
- Other sources may differ: some elements of the data may be contradictory or incorrect.
- Data is occasionally updated as new information becomes available.
- Scouting missions gathering reliable, verified data can receive substantial payment.
Note that some Second Survey data, though only 40 years old, may already be out of date.
- Verified updated data is constantly sought.
