Enos has both an unbreathable thin atmosphere and a lack of surface water making habitation by sophonts difficult. The system has a population between 10,000 and 10 million, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. This world is designated an Amber Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions make it dangerous to visitors. This a low technology world with technology competency below the standard for Charted Space. It is a member of Sword Worlds Confederation in the Sword Worlds Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector and in the Sword Worlds. This world hosts a Sword Worlds Military Base for support of military ground forces.

System Data
Apart from Enos, the system contains a single sparse asteroid belt and a half dozen minor planetoids which have escaped the belt.
Mainworld Data
Enos is small but unusually dense, being composed largely of heavier metals and similar massive materials. Geological evidence indicates that Enos itself may have been a rogue world which was captured by Kaleshi during a close encounter. The planet's standard atmosphere is also very unusual in light of its probable background.
Perhaps the most unusual aspect of Enos' geology is the Fire Sea. At first glance, this region is nothing more than a sweeping desert of sand broken only rarely by outcroppings of sand-blasted rocks and crags. However, a huge pocket of methane gas rests in the strata beneath the Fire Sea's shifting sands. Because the bedrock in this area is very brittle and has been shattered by seismic activity, the dangerous methane vapors are constantly seeping to the surface. As a result, the Fire Sea is a dangerous place to travel as any unprotected spark in the wrong place may cause a detonation.
In addition, the escaping gas often takes the form of a powerful jet. When this happens, an electrostatic discharge often builds up and causes the stream to ignite. These mighty pillars of flame often trigger long chains of powerful explosions which can decimate areas several kilometers in diameter. These blasts cause the bedrock below to break down even more quickly, releasing more gas and compounding the hazards for travelers.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)
Enos has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

Native Lifeforms
Flora & Fauna: There is no evidence that life of any sort ever managed to evolve on Enos, probably due to the planet's total lack of surface water. Deep scans of the planet have found huge pockets of gases and fluids. Modern society on Enos depends wholly on these pockets for water.
History & Background (Dossier)
The 750,000 inhabitants of Enos live in conditions which most off-worlders consider to be barbaric. Their government, originally appointed by the central Sword Worlds government on Gram in 950, has become stagnant and corrupt. Were it not for the planet's distance from the heartlands of the Sword Worlds Confederation, it would probably have been placed under a stricter leadership long ago.
World Starport (Sp)
Enos has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
World Population (P)
No information yet available.
World Demographics
Humaniti, population 100%
World Government (G)
Enos is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.
- Enos is the most rimward member of the Sword Worlds, and is only tenuously connected with its off-world government. Many travellers have noted that Enos is treated as a ghetto by the Sword Worlds' rulers, as is evident by its low tech level and lack of cultural funding and support.
World Law Level (L)
The planetary law level, though officially very high, is nothing more than a paper doctrine. There are few crimes, including murder, which cannot be committed by those with the influence or wealth to escape punishment. In many cases, convicted criminals are freed by powerful local figures in exchange for a period of indentured servitude. Bribery, treason, and deceit are ways of life on Enos. Enos has become home to a number of corsair bands. As long as they restrict themselves to raids on worlds outside of the Sword Worlds Confederation and cut the local authorities in on a share of the plunder, their activities go unchecked.
World Technology Level (TL)
Enos possesses a Technology Level of TL–4.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone and telegraphs, widespread printing.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early electricity, hydrocarbon internal combustion.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Trains and early automobiles.
- Water: Clippers and steam ships.
- Air: Dirigibles, balloons, very basic rockets.
World Military
A Sword Worlds military garrison is maintained on Enos at the request of the local government, serving to keep the corsair bands from setting their sights on planetary domination. Duty in the Enos Garrison is considered a punishment by most members of the Confederacy's military pool because of the unsavory nature of the local society. The local technology level is very low, being roughly similar to that employed on Terra during its First World War. Although there are numerous examples of higher technology items around the world, these are almost always in the hands of off-world interests.
World Economy
Enos is a member of the Sword Worlds Confederation, despite lying a long way from the core of the Sword Worlds, and despite being a poor planet of little value. It has a population of around 700,000 people, whose main occupation is mining petrochemicals or servicing the miners.
Petrochemical mining on Enos is a dangerous occupation and leads to a somewhat fatalistic attitude among those who undertake this work. This is made worse by the need to import almost all supplies and equipment from off-world. Since the end of the Fifth Frontier War this role has generally been undertaken by Imperial or Free Traders as Sword Worlds technology is not up to long range space voyages, and the Sword Worlds are currently more interested in reestablishing the stability of the confederation.
A Sword World base does still exist on Enos but only with a skeleton crew. Nominally its function is to prevent the misuse of the base by pirates or similar roughnecks, but it is doubtful whether it is sufficiently well-staffed to do so.
