Elemid is a high-population, pre-rich garden world with a billion or more sophonts in population size, a near-ideal utopian environment conducive to most sophonts, and still lacks adequate population to expand its economy to a rich status.

System Data

Mimus-Elemid System

The primary is Mimus, an ordinary yellow main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 1.102 Sols, a mass of 1.02 Sols, and a diameter of 1.399 million km. The inner system consists of (II) a vacuum worldlet and (III) a dense stony planetoid belt – orbital position (I) is empty. (IV) Elemid orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (V) a thin atmosphere hospitable world, (VI) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (VII) a trace atmosphere iceworld, and (VIII) a vacuum iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(IV) Elemid

(IV) Elemid is designated the mainworld. It orbits Mimus at a mean distance of 1.04 AU (155.6 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 383 days 14 hours and a rotation period of 26 hours. The axial tilt is 18 degrees. Elemid has a diameter of 11,486 km, a density of 5.84 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.95 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Dense, with a mean surface pressure of 2.2 bar and a composition of 76% nitrogen (N2), 23% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 64% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.25m. Mean surface temperature: 19°C. The atmosphere is dynamic and powerful weather systems, driven by the star and the oceans, drive across the globe. The climate is seasonal.

Mainworld Size (S)

This world is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

This world has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

This world has 55-65% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Satellite:

Elemid retains a single natural satellite, an ice-capped vacuum worldlet named Kurd:

(IVa) Kurd (UWP H301000-0, orbiting at 50 diameters/574,000 km)

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Total surface area: 414 million km², Land surface area: 149 million km², Water surface area: 265 million km².

Native lifeforms

Elemid, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal. The local flora has a tendency towards multiple narrow tall stems and needle-like leaves: foliage is generally green in colour. The majority of local fauna are amphibious in nature and follow the body pattern Bilateral HBS-T-LN-LN-T, with bony interiors, blood fluids, and scaly exteriors. Most local lifeforms can be digested by humans with few problems.

The cold marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (V) (within the H+ region of the outer system) has extensive native life, consisting of minute multicellular organisms that can be found in most ecological niches. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Elemid has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Elemid possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.

World government

Elemid has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.

World military

Each nation-state maintains their own military forces. There is, as yet, no unified planetary defense military command. There is a long history of armed conflict on this world despite the recent period of tranquility.
