System Data[edit]

Horovan-Eigh System[edit]

The primary is Horovan, an ordinary orange main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.42 Sols, a mass of 0.825 Sols, and a diameter of 1.263 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a vacuum worldlet and (II) a dense atmosphere stormworld. (III) Eigh orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (IV) a standard atmosphere bigworld, (V) a small gas giant, (VI) a small ice giant and (VII) a vacuum iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Ranedos Subsystem[edit]

The companion is Ranedos, a dwarf star that lies approximately 147 AU (orbital position (XII), 2.5 billion km) from Horovan: the two stars orbit their barycenter, located within orbital position (XI), once every 1400 years. Ranedos has a luminosity of 0.00004 Sols, a mass of 0.83 Sols, and a diameter of 12,500 km. The outer system consists of (I) a sparse icy planetoid belt.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(III) Eigh[edit]

(III) Eigh is designated the mainworld. It orbits Holovan at a mean distance of 0.66 AU (98.7 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 215 days 15 hours and a rotation period of 20.5 hours. The axial tilt is 16 degrees. Eigh has a diameter of 9,377 km, a density of 5.22 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.70 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.62 bar and a composition of 88% nitrogen (N2), 19% oxygen (O2), 1%, argon (Ar), 0.5% neon (Ne), 0.5% xenon (Xe), and 1% water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2) and other trace gases. The atmospheric taint is caused by the high percentage of inert gases. Approximately 38% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.25m. Mean surface temperature: 9°C. The climate is rated as Temperate-Cool and experiences minor seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is dynamic and strong weather systems driven by the star and the seas work across the globe.

Mainworld geography and topography[edit]

Total surface area: 276 million km², Land surface area: 171 million km², Water surface area: 105 million km².

  • Breathing the atmosphere without protective measures can result in argon, neon and xenon pooling within the lungs, eventually causing inert gas asphyxiation. Breathing untainted air will rapidly clear any such pooling. Symptoms include a noticeable deepening of the voice, a persistent headache, dizziness, confusion, and physical tremors. Prolonged exposure can cause nausea, vomiting, unconsciousness, coma and death.

Native lifeforms[edit]

Eigh has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in almost every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

No information yet available.

World starport[edit]

Eigh has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level[edit]

Eigh possesses a Technology Level of TL–4.

World government[edit]

Eigh is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be monarchy, with titles passed to family members. Or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Or the organization may be more typical organization with positions of power inherited.
