The Eclipse Serpens class Light System Defense Boat is a warship:

Description (Specifications)

The Eclipse Serpens class Light System Defense Boat is a heavily armored streamlined needle/wedge hull capable of wilderness ocean refueling. The vessel is a TL-13 design. The name of the class sprang from an overly optimistic marketing campaign. Seven of this class are carried into battle by the S-1a class Space Command Battle Tender.

Basic Ship Characteristics

Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (of ten craft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (thousands of tons) where necessary. [1]

Basic Ship Characteristics [2]
No. Category Remarks
1. Tonnage The Eclipse Serpens class Light System Defense Boat class is constructed using a 2,000 dTon hull built in an streamlined needle/wedge configuration.
  • x2 primary airlocks and x4 secondary service airlocks are located around the vessel. The cargo hold is accessed by several large hatches with loading ramps. It has vacuum cargo transfer locks with grapples.
  • The configuration of the hull typically stays in orbit and relies on service vessels.
2. Crew x88 personnel:
  • 11 command, 8 engineering, 14 gunnery, 1 flight, 4 services, and 50 marines.

Accommodations

  • There are 47 staterooms. Double occupancy accommodations are available for all.

Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems.

3. Performance The vessel mounts six Magnum Flow Reactionless 1G drives, and a Power Plant-10, giving performance of 6G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 6 and an emergency agility of 6. The internal fuel tankage is sufficient for the power plant to have 4 weeks duration.
  • The engineering section has a main control room.
    • Ladders, gantries and platforms give access to the machinery.
4. Electronics Adjacent to the bridge is an efficient Model/7fib computer: with no backup computer installed. There are multiple holo-dynamically reconfigurable Workstations.

Electromagnetic Spectrum Sensors include the following. • Active IR (infrared radiation, thermal imaging) (Active Sensor) • Laser / Light Sensors (Passive Sensor) • LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) – also called LADAR (Laser Detection and Ranging) (Active Sensor) • Prismatic (anti-laser) aerosol (countermeasure) • Magnetic Sensor (Passive Sensor) • Neutrino Sensor (Passive Sensor) • Passive IR (infrared radiation, thermal imaging) (Passive Sensor) • RADAR (Radio Detection and Ranging) (Active Sensor) • All-weather RADAR (improved function in a variety of environmental conditions) (Active Sensor) • RADAR Direction Finder (Passive Sensor) • RADAR Jammer (Active ECM) • Radiation Sensor (Passive Sensor) • Radio Detector (Communications Equipment) (Passive Sensor) • Radio Direction Finder (Passive Sensor) • Radio Jammer (Active ECM) • UV Detector (ultraviolet radiation) (Passive Sensor) Gravitic Equipment • Densitometer (gravitic sensor) (Passive Sensor) Navigational Aids • Inertial Locator (navigational aid, data improvement)

5. Hardpoints x20 hardpoints.
  • The listed battery groupings are standard configurations for the class. Alternative battery groupings may be designated for specific missions.
6. Armament The normal weapons fit-out is:
  • x1 100 ton factor 9 missile bays.
  • x6 triple Beam Laser turrets, 1 factor 7 battery.
  • x2 double fusion gun turrets, 1 factor 5 battery.
7. Defenses Factor 13 integral hull armor, 1 x factor 3 Nuclear Dampers, and 1 x factor 3 Meson Screens.
8. Craft Flight Section
  • x2 3 dton Air Rafts

The Eclipse Serpens class Light System Defense Boat usually carries a section of small Grav APCs for the direct action team to deploy and ex-filtrate. The vehicles are housed in a dedicated hanger.

9. Fuel Treatment The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 200 dTons. Fuel Scoops and On Board Fuel Purification
10. Cost The basic cost of the vessel, complete without the subcraft, is MCr2,792.675.
  • The vessel and its subcraft are standard designs. Detailed architectural plans are widely available and a 27.927 design fee is chargeable.
  • If multiple examples of the design are ordered all of the ships in the production run qualify for a 20% discount, which reduces the price per unit to MCr2,234.14 (not including subcraft).
11. Construction Time 132 weeks individually, 106 weeks in quantity.
  • Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.
12. Comments Standard cargo capacity amounts to 30 dTons.

History & Background (Dossier)

Designed and built for Talokan Armed Forces these are massively armored streamlined needle/wedge hulls, capable of ocean refueling. The best protected vessels in the fleet. They have to trust their missile bay to kill most targets. They carry a marine platoon. They are fast and agile. They are most vulnerable when launching and recovering to their tender. They have scoops and fuel purification to help refuel their tender, a slow and laborious process. They can do orbital insertions but may have to land to recover troopers quickly. Their marine scouts are typically equipped with PGMP-13s, Grav Belts and TL–13 Battle Dress.
