Physiology & Environment (Ecology)

The Ebokin are an octapedal race of insectoids. They are chilopodoids and bear a base similarity to the Terran centipede and related organisms.

Physiology

Ebokin are bilaterally symmetrical and are built low to the ground, with eight legs (octopodal) and four small manipulative arms set close to the head. They average 0.8 meters tall and 1.5 meters long and 130 kg in weight. They evolved from omnivorous hunters from rough-terrain fields, similar to the land near the present-day starport. Their hoof-like feet serve as effective bludgeoning weapons; unarmed combat with a trained Ebokin is deadly. Adulthood is reached at 14 standard years, physical aging at 30 years, and mental aging at 54 years. The average lifespan is 66 years.

Gender

The Ebokin have dual genders, with females less common (40%) but wielding the authority in government. Males suffer a -2 to Int, and tend to be slightly smaller than females. Males have the 'Craftsman' special ability.

Environment

An ice-capped Imperial world located within the Towers Cluster in the Aramis Subsector of the Spinward Marches. Yebab is a large, chilly world with an exotic atmosphere composed of methane, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and various trace elements.

Yebab's highly alien ecology makes the world of particular interest for scientific research. The University of Regina's biology department maintains a research facility at Yebab's starport to study the world's many exotic lifeforms. In addition to Yebab Startown, other major settlements on Yebab include Shalam Kular, Aga Ra, Kekushima, Gidii, and Kirpa.

Human intelligence is often underestimated by Ebokin, due to their only having two arms and the Ebokin's reliance on four arms for complex tasks and language.

Ebokin society is a very conservative matriarchy, bound by strict, unchanging laws. They seldom leave their homeworld.

Language & Letters (Communication)

Ebokin are deaf, so their language is primarily sign language (with four arms; a two-armed pidgin language exists for the impaired, among which humans are typically classed), but have better olfactory senses than humans.

Many Ebokin find the odor of humans to remind them of food. To some, this may be distracting.

Their vision, on the other hand, is shifted far into the ultraviolet; communication between humans and Ebokin typically relies on assistive technologies.

However, their "hands" can operate human equipment without difficulty.

Technology & Trade (Economy)

The Ebokin have a TL–7 society. The Ebokin, while not having the ability to build starships themselves, do have the ability to purchase them from others, which they do, along with technical and maintenance support.

A very small number of Ebokin merchants trade throughout nearby space and are particularly looking for technology training and acquisition. The Ebokin have strong ambitions to not remain a TL-7 culture for long.
