Diiron is a preindustrial, moderate population water world with over a hundred million, but not yet at a billion sophonts in population size.

  • Its surface is 90% or more covered in an ocean of water.
  • The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
  • As a preindustrial world, this planet cannot yet manufacture enough high-technology resources to support a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Vhodan Subsector of Vland Sector in the Domain of Vland.
  • It is a main world which is a satellite of either a gas giant or another world.
  • It is a chilly tundra world, with a climate of low temperatures.
  • This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or over technology standards for Charted Space.
  • This is a "Puzzle" world designated as an Amber Zone. Caution is advised since the world has an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that are not well understood and might be a danger to a visitor.
  • Diiron is located on the Vilani Main.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)

Diiron has a solitary primary star named Ro.

  • It is a yellow main sequence.

System Data

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data

Diiron is a major satellite of the ringed ice giant Hujuun.

  • Hujuun's ring system is extremely thin, very sparse, and made up of dark non-reflective granules.
  • It is almost invisible to the naked eye but produces clear signals on shipboard sensors.

Mainworld Size (S)

Diiron is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

Diiron has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. While a Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

Diiron has 95-100% of its surface covered by liquid water with only a few islands and archipelagos. Wilderness refueling is possible. Such worlds are Water Worlds or Ocean Worlds.

History & Background (Dossier)

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Diiron is a Puzzle World and is designated as an Amber Zone. It presents particular risks and dangers due to the environment or native life forms, laws or customs, or other conditions that are not well understood.

  • Visitors are advised to act with caution.

World Starport (St)

Diiron has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)

Diiron has a population of 600,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).

Urbanization

All of Diiron's population live on densely populated archipelagos dominated by a major central city: the towering cities are advanced, sophisticated, and spacious, while the suburbs are multi-layered, severely overcrowded, backward, and run down. The chief cities are:

  • Naadu (population 10 million), the capital city of the world.
  • Ankama (population 9.4 million).
  • Kuumashe (population 9.3 million).
  • Siilisak (population 9.2 million).
  • Iirii (population 9.1 million), the site of the world's starport.

World Technology Level (T)

Diiron possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)

Diiron is governed by a Charismatic Dictatorship. Charismatic governments justify their ability to rule by simply asserting their right to rule. Charismatic dictatorships are young governments, coming as a recent change and rely on the leader(s) to supply head of government.

World Law (L)

Diiron has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A few worlds with this law level may be a Red Zone and others will be an Amber Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors).

Imperial High (Landed) Nobility

Diiron, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estates of three members of the Imperial Nobility, who are charged with overseeing the world.

Trade Data

  • Importance: 2 (ordinary)

The world's principal products are marine agriproduce (chiefly fish and seaweeds), processed marine produce, compounds, non-metals, ores, and documents.

World Economy

  • Resources: E (extremely abundant)
  • Labor: 7 (tens of millions)
  • Infrastructure: C (very extensive)
  • Efficiency: +4 (advanced)

World Culture

  • Heterogenity: A (discordant)
  • Acceptance: A (very friendly)
  • Strangeness: 7 (confusing)
  • Symbols: E (extremely abstract)
