Darrian (Spinward Marches 0627) is the homeworld of the Darrians, a minor race of humaniti.
The surface of Darrian is divided by long, high mountain ranges into 5 basins. Each basin is centred on a sea fed by rivers draining the surrounding country; thus, basins are the equivalent of continents. Each basin also contains the remains of a "Flame Pit", once 2 km beds of glowing coals fed from below by geothermal action. Around each Pit stands the remnant of an Orchard. These trees growing here are circular but have a cross-section of about 5 square metres. These trees have been used as homes.
Darrian is a small world with low gravity. Four major cities on Darrian are grav structures held aloft by grav modules. Rebhar was constructed as a mining platform for the mountainous rim of the Boyr Basin. Pororda, now a tourist centre in Rimb basin, was built as a sea farming centre. Kilulga, in the Abh basin, hangs in the upper atmosphere. Zehn Nyak in the Nyadh Basin is a migratory city, moving among 7 sites as the markets and seasons change.
Darrian is the technological centre of the Darrian Confederation, as Mire (Spinward Marches 0527) is the political center. Scientists are in charge of the government and industry, paying careful attention to possible consequences before allowing changes. There are restrictions on the export of any artifacts of pre-Maghiz culture that still remain on Darrian.
