The Celella Nebula, also called the Dark Nebula (from which the sector takes its name), is a unique nebula found straddling the Khtoiakta and Yohkui subsectors within the Dark Nebula Sector.
Description[edit]
While having a notably greater density of hydrogen than typical interstellar space, the Celella Nebula is not a typical nebula; it has neither the star forming areas of a luminous nebula nor the density of dust particles of an absorption nebula. On an optical level, it barely qualifies as a nebula at all; it cannot be observed from Terra (Solomani Rim 1827), a mere 50 parsecs away.
More unusually, the Nebula possesses the gravitational influence of much more mass than it is observed to hold. Most notably of all, it has a profound effect on local jumpspace, causing it to be a severe astrogational hazard.

The appellation of "Dark Nebula" seems to originate with Terran explorers late in the Interstellar Wars era, the term being used not because of its visual nature (it is not optically dark in the least, and is barely visible at all) but in the same sense of 'unknown or unrecorded' as the term "Dark Age". Most Terran ships heeded the warnings of the Vilani and gave the Nebula a wide berth; the fate of those who attempted to enter it is unknown.
