Danube is a poor, nonindustrial world.

  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • This world has few prospects for economic development.
  • This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
  • It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Sephi Hydra Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Danube is a standard-sized, tidally-locked twilight world with a very thin atmosphere, and a prominent ice-cap at the cold pole. The ice-cap is notable as it has large deposits of compressed blue ice, visible from orbit using sensors.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

While there are several mountain ranges, only the polar region contains water, resulting in vast desert regions elsewhere.

World Starport[edit]

Danube has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

The Danube Starport is located on a wide plateau on the warm side of the twilight zone.

World Technology Level[edit]

Danube possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government[edit]

Danube is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.

World Law Level[edit]

Danube has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A few worlds with this law level may be a Red Zone and others will be an Amber Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors).

Danubean law seems to have evolved along the lines of necessity, with most of the more draconian laws having to do with habitat hull integrity, atmosphere maintenance, and avoidance of wasting resources.

World Culture[edit]

Danube was settled as a mining colony with rich reserves of water-ice by religious refugees from the Grand United States of Quesada. While fleeing persecution, they nonetheless brought with them the very oppressive system of laws, similar to the one to which they were accustomed.

Urbanization[edit]

Danube Proper is a small city-sized zone snugged up against a branch of the the cold-pole ice pack, connected to the Danube Starport located 50km sunward by a heavy rail connection.
