History & Background (Dossier)
Designed and built for the CNS of the Tellerian Cluster, this is a class of fleet carrier. They are capable of 3 G's acceleration, and have 2 agility. The size of a cruiser, the close structure hull is partially streamlined and heavily armored to withstand heavy punishment. It is capable of gas giant refueling and is fitted with fuel scoops and on board fuel purification. It carries enough fuel for two consecutive jumps. Its major offensive power is from its eight squadrons of single place, 25 ton Snake Class Fleet Defense Fighters. It carries twenty 100 ton Talon Class Scouts, organized into two squadrons. They act as the eyes of the fleet and facilitate marine landings. It carries a platoon of 50 marines. There are two launch tubes to ensure rapid deployment and recovery of the fighter complement. The weapons load is configured to protect versus enemy fighter and missile strikes which are viewed as the major threat. A battery of nine triple sand casters turrets, two repulsor bays, 340 twin pulse laser turrets organized into twenty batteries and thirty dual plasma cannons firing as sixty point defense batteries protect the vessel. Offense is limited to its fighters and eight heavy missile bays fitted for nuclear ordinance. These are used for ship to surface and against enemy combatants that break through the screening force of eighty fighters. Its command and control center is equipped with DRADIS and a pair of model 4 fib computers. Each of the two battle fleets has eighteen of these carriers deployed as a deterrent force, to prevent aggression against the cluster's colonies.
