Clavius is an agricultural, nonindustrial, garden world with a near-ideal, utopian environment conducive to most sophonts.

  • As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • Its economy and population are rapidly growing and living conditions are expected to moderately rise in the near future.
  • It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Sephi Hydra Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Clavius is a Terra-class garden world.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

Clavius has standard ice caps, and most standing water takes the form of lakes that form from river systems sourced from the various mountain ranges. There is one large inland sea surrounded by some of the highest ranges on the planet.

World Starport[edit]

Clavius has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

The Clavius Welcome port is a basic port, which is under continuous construction. From the public plans, it should qualify as a Class-C downport in 2 - 4 years.

World Technology Level[edit]

Clavius possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
    • Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
    • Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
    • Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government[edit]

Clavius has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. A colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.

Massina has taken control of Clavius has an act of "charity".

World Law Level[edit]

Clavius has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Military[edit]

World Economy[edit]

The small population of Clavius had reached the point of sustainable survival when Massina arrived. The population has a large agrarian base that uses mechanized farming techniques to feed itself and sell foodstuffs off-world.

The world economy is tied closely to the government. The technical university system had advanced civilian technology to using transistor electronics and miniaturized desktop computers. With the arrival of Massina, Clavius has now set up public wireless networks and a rapidly growing worldnet.

Trade Data[edit]

Agricultural.

World Demographics[edit]

Total population of Clavius is approximately 600,000.

World Culture[edit]

Clavius culture is very much about self-capability, being able to fend for yourself in difficult circumstances. Children are taught basic survival skills from a young age, and get frequent practice in camping in various different venues. This cultural touchstone cascades forward into public education policy.

The arrival of the Massinans was a blow to the pride of Clavius, who had been a people proud of their recent achievements. Massina, as a T-13 culture, broadly out-classed the Clavians, and their "charity" still stings. This reaction drives an animosity not only to visiting Massinan, but to all travellers, who get lumped into the same pot by most Clavians.

Urbanization[edit]

There is a fairly sizable capitol on the seacoast, with structures ranging from ancient stoneworks to T-7/8 office towers. Most smaller cities have T-6 structures with HVAC systems.

Electrical power grids are sourced by a combination of biomass and nuclear reactor systems.
