Chiik is a low-population garden world with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts in population size.

  • It is a garden world with a near-ideal, utopian environment conducive to most forms of sophontic life.
  • Both the population and economy of this world are expected to grow in the near future barring outside forces.
  • It is a part of the Sath Exploration program in the Hak'tha Subsector of Deep Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.

Astrography and Planetology

This world is part of the Hak'tha Spread, a small open cluster of systems lying to rimward-trailing of the Distant Fringe proper.

System data

The primary is Khii'ch, a hot white main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 75.2 Sols, a mass of 2.98 Sols, and a diameter of 4.063 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a large extremely hot gas giant, (III) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (IV) a vacuum worldlet, (V) an insidious atmosphere inferno world, (VI) a vacuum worldlet, and (VII) a marginally habitable thin atmosphere world – orbital position (II) is empty. (VIII) Chiik orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (IX) a large ringed gas giant, (X) a small gas giant, and (XI) an exotic atmosphere radworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

(VIII) Chiik

(VIII) Chiik is designated the mainworld and orbits Khii'ch at a mean distance of 9.3 AU (1.39 billion km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 16 years 157 days and a rotation period of 43 hours. The axial tilt is 21 degrees. Chiik has a diameter of 11,433 km, a density of 5.08 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.82 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, with a mean surface pressure of 0.95 bar and a composition of 77% nitrogen, 22% oxygen, and 1% argon, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. Approximately 63% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water and sheets of water-ice: average tidal ranges exceed 0.5m. Mean surface temperature: 5°C. The atmosphere is active and powerful weather systems, driven by the star and the seas, drive across the globe. The climate is seasonal and weather patterns follow regular cycles during the local year.

World starport

Chiik has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Chiik possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
    • Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
    • Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
    • Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World government

Chiik is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to write the policies voted on. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by voting population.
