System Data

Beijan-Chell System

The primary is Beijan, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.04 Sols, a mass of 0.489 Sols, and a diameter of 764,000 km. The companion is Ogshu, a dim red subdwarf star. It has a luminosity of 0.00103 Sols, a mass of 0.081 Sols, and a diameter of 109,000 km. The two stars are in close orbit, with a mean separation of 550,000 km and an orbital period around one another of 2 hours 36 minutes. (I-I) Chell, designated the mainworld, and (I-II) [world], a very thin atmosphere hospitable world, have a shared orbit within the habitable zone. (II) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world, (III-I) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (III-II) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (IV-I) a sparse icy planetoid belt, (IV-II) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (V) a trace atmosphere iceworld, and (VI) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(I-I) Chell

(I-I) Chell is designated the mainworld. It orbits the Beijan-Ogshu close binary stars at a mean distance of 0.11 AU (16.5 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 17 days 16 hours: it is tidally locked to the Beijan-Ogshu binary pair. The axial tilt is 2 degrees. Chell has a diameter of 6,631 km, a density of 3.87 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.37 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of the stars cause constant geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.21 bar and a composition of 81% nitrogen (N2), 17% oxygen (O2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the high levels of background radiation generated by the stars: emission rates exceed 20 rads per hour. Approximately 28% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.4m. Mean surface temperature: 35°C. The atmosphere is active and moderate weather systems driven by the stars and the seas work across the globe. The climate is static.

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Total surface area: 138 million km², Land surface area: 99 million km², Water surface area: 39 million km².

Native Lifeforms

Chell, the mainworld, has extensive native life, consisting of radiation-tolerant has extensive native life, consisting of microscopic organisms, stromatolite-parallels and primitive flora that can be found in almost every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

The temperate hospitable world lying in orbital position (I-II) (within the habitable zone) has extensive native life, consisting of minute radiation-tolerant multicellular organisms that can be found in most ecological niches. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

The cold marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (II) (within the H+ region of the outer system) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and warmth. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Chell has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Chell possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World government

Chell is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to write the policies voted on. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by voting population.
