Native Lifeforms

The native plant life consists largely of semi-subterranean roots and tubers, as well as a few cactus-equivalents. Native animal life includes a number of carnivorous species, mostly of the scavenger and trapper types.

Native Sophont (NIL): Irhadre

This minor Human race is somewhat infamous in the Imperium for one aspect of their culture -- the indentured servitude that half of the adult population is kept in, which critics label slavery.

History & Background / Dossier

Chanad joined the Imperium in Imperial year 69, on very generous terms. This became controversial when the nature of local custom became widely known, as critics considered Chanad's caste system a form of slavery, which would violate the Imperial charter. The initial outcry caused the political downfall of the Sector Duke of Lishun. The matter is still a sore one for some.

Imperial High / Landed Nobility

Chanad, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estates of two members of the Imperial Nobility, who are charged with overseeing the world.

Few native Irhadre have ever possessed a patent of nobility. Their culture promotes democratic and collaborative ideals, and they're uncomfortable with hereditary aristocracy. In addition, their reputation in the wider Imperium as "slaveholders" make them unattractive candidates for such patents.

World Starport

Chanad has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Dareen Downport and its accompanying naval base are located at Unwalla, the largest settlement on the planet.

World Technology Level

Chanad possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government

Chanad is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referendum, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.

World Economy

Irhadre merchant vessels are long-range. They are common sights throughout the Domain of Antares, including the unincorporated sectors of Meshan and Mendan. Long-distance trade has brought the Irhadre into regular contact with the Vargr.

Trade Data

Irhadre technological designs favour utility over aesthetics. This makes them less desirable in markets such as the Core Sector, but increases it in places like Vland where good workmanship and reliable tradition counts for more than outward appearance or fads. Attempts to teach the Irhadre “marketing” techniques have met with little success; they are stubbornly resistant to change.
