The Chacinti are a technologically sophisticated sophont species.

Description (Specifications)

Chacinti: a minor sophont Species. An Arachnidoid-like bipedal life form.

Homeworld:

Haradin, a temperate garden world located in Darkshade Subsector of Mavuzog Sector.

Physiology:

Their hands have three fingers and two opposing thumbs, while there fingers and thumbs have four joints each, making their fingers appear longer than humans. they have four arms , that have four joins as well, allowing for inhuman movements in melee combat and movement. Their legs have four joints as well and are similar in design to that of the Droyne. so all limbs appear longer in proportion to those of humans. they have clawed hands and a serrated like ridge running down each forearm. they use this in a martial art form they developed over the centuries it bestows them a +1 to their melee unarmed combat. this can be increased with training in melee natural or melee unarmed. their claws or ridge does 1d-2 per limbed used to attack. this is taught in religious monasteries for defense of self or other life. These monks serve as their religious leaders and the faith is practiced by 30% of the population. Unless taught by monks the only other source of teachers are the elite special forces.who learn it from the monks as part of their training.

Bilateral HBS-T-AN-LL-N Exoskeleton

Their epidermis is covered in carapace with flexible areas exposed showing a wrinkly leathery skin. This comes in greens, grays, and browns. The fleshy parts have colored patters , which usually indicate a noble or royal heritage. Their heads are slightly heart shaped with two orifices for a nose that are only used for respiratory circulation. they stand 4 1/2'to 5' tall and weigh between 90lbs to 120lbs. Appearing as slim beings with long limbs.

Senses

  • Energy: V
  • Vibration: H
  • Volatiles: S
  • Matter: T
  • Fields: A
  • Aura: P

Their eyes are coal black and they have eye lids. They can see into the IR spectrum and they have excellent low light vision. They tend to wear tinted goggles in normal light, due to light sensitivity. Normal light is blinding to them because of the eons of living underground.

They have a set of multi segmented antennae protruding from their eyebrow area, between their eyes. These antennae are short, only 10 or 13 cm long, and serve as their noses. Their olfactory senses rival terrestrial blood hounds. the antenna show mood or emotion of the Chacinti as they speak to one another in sign language. The antenna show facial expressions since there faces are covered in shell and cant flex like humans can.

They have a stench defense mechanism, it causes vomiting and gaging from sinuous drainage if the species has sciences. and just the smell of it laves a horrid taste in the mouth for up to an hour, same duration of the stench if the secretion gets on you. This secretion comes from under each arm pit from an ozopour.

They have inner ears that are covered with a carapace that has a echo like chamber, allowing for normal hearing under the thick carapace covered body.

They like circles and spirals in their art work, and are excellent sculptors, engravers, and molders of clay and the like. They like contrast of dark and light, and enjoy most colors.

Characteristics

A baseline species has the following characteristic ranges:

  • Strength 2D
  • Dexterity 2D
  • Endurance 2D
  • Intelligence 2D
  • Training 2D
  • Social 2D

Genetic Profile: SDEITS

They get a +2 to Dex and a -1 Soc. Their carapace bestows a + 1 protection overall..and their chitinth armor provides a +4 protection.

Aptitudes:

They love to climb and are swift and agile climbers, and enjoy climbing cliff's, mountains, chasms, and even trees. They are very skilled molders, engravers, and sculptors. Tey have a knack for stealth and recon and enjoy a +1 bonus when attempting to do so.

Movement

When down on all limbs in a spider-like stance they are very stealthy and get a +1 bonus to stealth. they are excellent at swinging from rock to rock or branch to branch, Making them quick climbers as well. but they prefer to walk upright for better view, combat and communications.

Reproduction

They are asexual and when generating an egg, they do not produce chitinth, stink defense or poison. Everything goes to making the new life.and they become ferocious eaters for two weeks. Once enough proteins and building blocks are consumed the make the egg..it comes out with 1 life inside and they only lay eggs every 10 years. after laying the egg they protect it until it is hatched. At which time they begin raising the child until its 14th birthday at which time they are usually fully physically mature.

Life Stages

  • 0 Infant: ½ Term (2 years).
  • 1 Child: 1 Term (4 years).
  • 2 Adolescent: 2 Terms (8 years).
    • Career starts at age 14.
  • 3 Young adult: 3 Terms (12 years).
  • 4 Adult: 5 Terms (20 years).
  • 5 Peak: 3 Terms (12 years).
    • Physical aging begins at age 58
  • 6 Midlife: 4 Terms (16 years).
  • 7 Senior: 5 Terms (20 years).
  • 8 Elder: 3 Terms (12 years).
  • 9 Retirement: 3 Terms (12 years).
    • Mental aging begins at 106 years.

They tend to their young until the age of 14, at that point they begin to live on their own. When a Chacinti is giving birth to its egg, all other Chacinti protect it until it regains its strength and is able to carry on. they also protect children as a group if a child is threatened. Chacinti elders when they get too old to function in society , are given a chamber in the family home and are tended too. in return the elder becomes a chatinth making factory. able to produce twice the normal amount per day as their children and grandchildren can. Typical lifespan is around 150 years.

Diet and Trophics

They are omnivore ambush hunter scavengers.

They have a two part insect like mouth. the lower mandibles, for tearing off and holding food, with and upper part for grinding up food. their tongs are 5 long tentacle like things with small hooks lined along one side. they have no vocal chords or swallowing muscles. so the tong must reach up to grab the food and carry it to their stomachs. the tong can be extended out of the mouth some 8" and is often a sign of anger. but it is common that they clean all four hands after eating, with their tong's as well. They have an organ that coverts all waste into chatinth and can excrete this into the stomach and brought up with the tentacles tong. They farm fugi and alge as well as root vegitables and some fruit. They raise insect like animals as well.

Chitin

They do not defecate or excrete anything other than chatinith. It comes out as a thick snot like substance from their mouths..regurgitated from an organ that builds up 2kg a day of this substance. Once it hits oxygen outside the body it begins to rapidly dry and cure to become steel strength. with in seconds it becomes clay like to be shaped and molded into a desired shape. It can be shaped into simple tools or weapons. It can be formed into armor, shields,or even used for construction or patchwork. Or even serve as a make shift weld or hull patch..but because it is only produced 2kg at a time making some things take time to construct.

Their chatinth secretions can be used for climbing on slick or vertical surfaces for a short time..but must be cleaned off prior to the ten min mark before it dries in 18 to 20 minutes to become hard as steel.

Psychology & Philosophy

Primal Drives

Species psychology is driven by factors common to many sophonts:

  • Acquisition (stemming from the need to gather adequate nutrition),
    • Curiosity (originating from the urge to seek out sources of nutrition)
  • Preservation (derived from the need to continue their personal existence), and
  • Perpetuation (the urge to continue the species).

They farm fungi and algae as well as root vegetables and some fruit. They raise alpinds which look like giant aphids. And are raised like cattle for their meet and milked for their milk. They also eat wild worms that grow to 1 to 2 ft long. And seem to be randomly everywhere on the planets surface.or that is under the planets surface.this stems from their primal urges to gather enough nutrition.

Behaviors

A number of other factors are significant in the mental processes of the species:

Curiosity is a major drive for them, they are mainly curious about alien species their cultures, behaviors, major drives, their biology, chemistry, and technologies and sciences. Virtue and honor are also important drives or behaviors for them. This stems from their belief that all life is connected at a spiritual level.its also at the core cause of them being friendly and curious. While friendly and curious they are very cautious at everything.

Their out look is cosmic sophontism. Their religion is more like a philosophy than a true religeion. Its very similar to Buddhism. They believe in reincarnation and if your benevolent in your life you will return in a higher life form or will live a more blessed life. Anyone can worship , and about 24% of the poulation does. Serving the temple means taking the path of a monk..starting at initiate and ending at master. Monks are tought martial arts and melee weapons. And if the initiate shows psionic potential they can be tought . each school has one style of martial arts and one disaplin of psioncs . cross training is difficult and rare.there are five schools..telekinetic, telepathic, awareness, clairvoyance, teleportation. Theres another disaplin secret and only tought to those with high rank with in the temple. Its invisibility. They have developed a freeze behavior.they can slow heart rate, respiration, and metabolism and hold still for months at a time. And voluntary come out of it at will. Being fully aware while in this state. They use this freeze for survival if found isolated from food and water sources.and can hold off starvation for up to 2 months while dehydration only takes 1 month.this has trained them to be extremely patient creatures, willing to out wait if possible, any thing it benefits them to do so.for this reason disagreements with them can be very time consuming.

Major Drives

  • They tend to be solitary
  • They are friendly to most.

Language

They don't posses vocal chords but can make noises, a series of clicks, screeches and grinding sounds made with their mouth pieces. they use a complex form of sign language similar to earths, and can use their antenna to show mood or emotion. they use a almost non detectable pharamone scent based communications as well , this is a left over feature from the species it was created from, the ophillan ,a type of spider commonly known as daddy long legs on earth. They have a written language that is very similar to Chinese of ancient earth.with caricatures, complex and detailed.and written top to bottom in paragraphs.

Social Organization:

They hate to wear clothing other than armor. Only the noble, royal families wear clothing, as well as leaders of respective areas of knowledge or religious leaders. Their religious leaders are monk's from monasteries that specializes in melee armed and unarmed combat. Their special forces study this martial art for close combat techniques. A student of this martial art wears robes with colors and insignia of the family that started that monastery. Leaders of knowledge or skills wear sashes with their family logos and colirs. Military who have achived top rank wear a sort of surcoat with their war achievements, family symbol, and unit symbol. Clothes are a symbol of great honor and given to those wielding great respect for tallent in their respective fields.they are worn usually only when needed.and personal chitinth armor is commonly worn with them.

Military

Chacinti prefer to parley before a battle. They do not conduct war around populated areas or near valuable resources. They prefer to battle in wilderness, deserts, or the deep vacuum of space, where there will be minimal collateral damage.

They maintain a small standing fleet.

Interstellar Relations:

Friends of the Talokan they view them as spiritual brother's by the faithful, and friendly by all other Chacinti. The two races share many planets and trade routes with each other, and work very well together.

Technology & Trade

The more advanced technology they have achieved have come from Talokan guidance from trade deals that were mutually beneficial.and some of the maintenance done to their fleet is done by the Talokan due to their superior tech level and degree of knowledge. They have a good understanding of robotics and robotic Intelligence, and employ droids often, for labor, or other tasks. Among them is the deadly fighter and boarding robots / droids.

Technological Overview

Current Average Technology: TL-9 (Early Stellar)

Technological Research

Their chatinth is being used by the Talokan for quick patches for hulls, battle dress, and such.they have found a way to preserve the goo and make it dry quicker when needed, threw chemical alterations and delivered threw a new device they have invented.

Economics

  • Resources: A (Abundant)
  • Labor: 7 (Tens of millions)
  • Infrastructure: 5 (Limited, national boundaries)
  • Efficiency: 3 (Good)

Almost every plant life on the Chacinti home world is harvested for its seed periodically, and sold or traded to the Talokan. As well as a good portion of their fruits and vegetables, herbs and even some fungi. They trade or sell all excess chitinth substance as well. And any minerals, metals, or stones needed by the Talokan. But in ecologically responsible ways, due to their love of nature and connection to their worlds. They export Chacinti sculptures, paintings, and other artworks. The Talokan elites love their unique designs. They also manufacture melee weapons and custom steel armor with intricate design's and stylish designs. They receive mostly tech, knowledge, shipbuilding techniques, etc from the Talokan.
