Caldron is a high-population ring of many small worldlets (planetoids AKA an "asteroid belt"), not capable of retaining an atmosphere or water, and are both non-agricultural and industrial in nature with a billion or more sophonts in population size.

  • These worldlets warrant hazardous environment precautions.
  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • As a group of industrial worldlets, well-developed manufacturing and processing sectors are major business here. Manufactured goods are a major export item.
  • The worldlets are, for the most part, unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
  • This is a "Puzzle" world designated as an Amber Zone. Caution is advised since the world has an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that are not well understood and might be a danger to a visitor.
  • It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the New Holland Subsector of Alpha Crucis Sector.

Mainworld Data

Mainworld Size (S)

This world is an Asterioid Belt or Planetoid Belt consisting of a few very large objects with diameters of hundreds of kilometers, thousands of bodies of a few kilometers in diameter, and millions of smaller objects. Asteroid Belt is used when the belt is the mainworld of a system. Planetoid Belt refers to any non-mainworld belt within a system.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

This world has a pressure of less than 0.001 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

This world has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.

History & Background (Dossier)

Caldron is a high population, industrial asteroid belt located in New Holland Subsector of Alpha Crucis Sector. The system is a member of the Solomani Confederation.

World Starport (Sp)

This world has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.

World Population (P)

This world has a population of 1,000,000,000 sophonts (billions).

World Government

This world is governed by a Non-charismatic Dictatorship. A continuation of the charismatic dictatorship, where the original leadership has died or retired and replaced by allies or protégés. The reasons for the change in government remain as well as the assertion of rights to rule.

On paper the Caldron's government is a participatory democracy. Outside observers believe that the elections are highly unfair and show signs of manipulation.

World Law Level (L)

This world has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. Most worlds with this law level may be an Amber Zone or Red Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). Civilian movement is rigidly controlled. There is no difference between the police and the military. This world is a full-fledged police state. Oppression is legalized, though not routine.

World Technology Level (TL)

This world possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

Caldron is designated as a law level B world due to its government's extreme invasion of privacy. There is absolute zero right to privacy or personal space on the world. Interestingly though, there are almost no laws for weapons, drugs or other commonly restricted activities.

World Demographics

Caldron is populated by Solomani and Selenites.

World Culture

The government of Caldron requires that the individual submits their rights of privacy to society. Every room in every asteroid habitat or Caldron-registered ship must have audio-visual feeds that are publicly accessible to public networks. Children are implanted with neural implants that allow others to tune in on them at any time. This lack of privacy has woven itself into the social mores of Caldron to the point that people do not wear clothes when indoors because they fear they will be seen as hiding something.

The society is structured around a social network that is used to track and rate people's personal reputations. To maintain a high rating people partake in gift-giving, favor exchanges and community service. People with negative ratings find themselves ruthlessly excluded from participating in society.
