Bourne Sector can be located to coreward-trailing of the Distant Fringe proper and characterised by the so-called Moat Rifts. It contains 157 systems and has a listed population of less than 1 million sophonts. Only one subsector (subsector N) is accessible to conventional jump-2 vessels travelling from the Distant Fringe.

Linguistic Topography
The following languages are among the most commonly spoken within Bourne sector:
- Anglish. A direct descendant of Fleet Anglic, widely spoken throughout the Distant Fringe. Most people know a few words and phrases of Anglish.
- Orometi. The language of the Protectorate and the Worlds of The Leader, the language the Empire and a common language throughout the coreward-spinward quadrant of Far Home Sector. It is derived from Bengali and other south asian languages of old Terra.

Bourne Sector has a known population of approximately 810,000 sophonts. Significant populations of the following sophont species are found within its borders:
