The Blimps are a non-human minor race which inhabits the atmosphere of the gas giant Andu in the Bondi (Zarushagar 1707) system.

Physiology & Environment (Ecology)

In shape, the Blimps take the form of large hydrogen filled gas bags with a ventral sense cluster/brain complex. Hydrogen is processed from the atmosphere and stored in the main body. Natural relief valves allow the Blimp to change direction and altitude. Reproduction is through a budding process. Four pliable tentacles are used as the Blimp's manipulative organs.

History & Background (Dossier)

The Blimps were first discovered in 832 by atmospheric miners who had come to Andu to skim the gas giant for commercial purposes. The presence of an intelligent race prompted scientists to flock to the planet to study the airborne life forms.

Technology & Trade (Economy)

While the Blimps have only a rudimentary tech level, between 0 and 1, they have developed a great body of theoretical knowledge, especially in the areas of philosophy, mathematics and physics. Xenologists surmise that this came about due to limited tool making resources and environmental constraints. The Blimps had little else to do but think and survive. Intelligence, as on many worlds, developed from the struggle to survive and avoid predators.

Interstellar Trade

Today, atmospheric mining is still an important source of revenue, but while Andu's atmosphere is still skimmed for useful gases, atmospheric mining now only occurs under the regulation (supervision) of the locals.

  • Scientific research is Andu's major product.
  • The Blimps lack starfaring capability and are thus limited to trade with visiting merchants and traders. The Blimp government is considering using some of its newfound wealth to buy some starships.
