Birii is a nonindustrial vacuum world, which warrants hazardous environment precautions.

  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a main world which is a satellite of either a gas giant or another world.
  • It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Iusea Subsector of Diaspora Sector in the Domain of Sol.

History & Background

Unlike the worlds of Hammett and Shoehorn, which hired outside contractors to help them, the laconic folk of Birii have solved their water problems themselves.

  • Birii is an iron-cored moon of a large gas giant. In the next orbit out, there is a small icy moon. The Biriis have built a number of TL-6 spacecraft to serve as shuttles between their homeworld and the icy moon, where they can gather ample supplies of water and hydrogen. They have also established extensive hydroponics farms on the icy moon, which now produces almost 50% of their food. Birii itself is mined for iron and other native ores essential to spacecraft and hydroponic operations.
  • Birii's self-reliant survival is even more remarkable in that 50% of its original population either died or emigrated over the past ten years.

Imperial High (Landed) Nobility

Birii, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Nobility overseeing the world.
