The star Elnath (otherwise known as Beta Tauri and Gamma Aurigae) is a blue giant star of spectral type B7 that lies along the plane of Galaxias only a few degrees askew of the galactic anti-center (i.e. due rimward).
- The ancient Solomani astronomer Johann Bayer consider the star two be a component of two separate constellations of the Terran night sky (Taurus the Bull and Auriga the Charioteer), and gave the star two separate designations in his nomenclature: Beta Tauri and Gamma Aurigae.
Description (Specifications)
The Beta Tauri star system lies approximately 41.1pc from Terra, and is located in a Rimward/Rimspinward direction from Terra at bearing 178.0o Galactic Longitude and -03.75o South Galactic Latitude.
