Bechant has a tainted, unbreatheable atmosphere and little available surface water. The system supports a population of fewer than 10,000 sophonts. This world is designated an Amber Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions make it dangerous to visitors.  The governance of this world is from . It is a member of Third Imperium in the Laraa Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Bechant, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world. During the Long Night this world was named Khiigep.

Astrography and planetology

Bechant is a member of the Sylean Main.

Bechant serves as the adopted homeworld of the M'nengi, who call it Chaa'egi M'da ("first crop"). The world government is overseen from Urak (Zarushagar 3101)

History and background

Bechant had initially been colonized by German-speaking Solomani but during the Long Night the colonists were completely massacred by the arriving M'nengi colony ship. The M'nengi hordes took over the remnants of the colony as their City of Kings while the rest of the M'nengi hordes had to build their own primitive cities amidst the dunes.

Today their asteroid ship is in permanent orbit around the planet as its moon "Giaani M'n". After the last uprising the M'nengi were forced out of the ruins of the human settlement, which was rebuilt as an Imperial Marine stronghold. This is now an active free port though visitors are reminded that a visit outside to the M'nengi is extremely dangerous given their violent and cannibalistic nature.

World Starport (Sp)

Bechant has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)

2,000

World Government (G)

Bechant has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. A colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.

The planetary government is officially considered to be the Imperial Marine enclave at Khoa'ta under their Commanding Officer, who takes orders from Urak. They use independent factors to interact with the 'natives' and rarely interfere directly in M'Nengi affairs.

The M'Nengi have a primitive tribal structure ruled by a supreme warlord with absolute power, known as the Khoa.

World Law Level (L)

Bechant has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

Note that this refers to the Imperial port. The M'Nengi have their own law, which includes the death penalty for a surprising number of offences (surprising given their low population). All M'Nengi are obliged by their law to share food with any fellow M'Nengi who are hungry. Running water is considered a manifestation of the gods, and befouling it is a capital offence.

World Technology Level (TL)

Bechant possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

Urbanization

Imperial marines and factors now occupy the city of Khoa'ta and the starport while the M'Nengi live in primitive settlements, consisting of several stockades surrounding windowless, single storey, tightly-packed round dwellings. These buildings are known as Yts and are formed from a frame of sandreed and hides with mud sandwiched between. Beyond the stockades are animal pens and grazing grounds.
