Banking, Insurance, and Legal is a major business sector of the Distant Fringe.

General Overview

The banking, insurance and legal business sector is the section of the economy devoted to the holding of financial assets for others, investing those financial assets as leverage to create more wealth, and the regulation of those activities by impartial agencies. It includes accountancy, investments, stocks and shares, commodity exchanges, underwriting, futures exchanges, and currency and specie production. It covers organisations dealing in precious metals and strategic materials, as well as marketing works of art, gems, jewellery, and treasures. It also includes loans, auctions, repossessions, witnessing and notarising, conveyancing, and legal representation and advice of every conceivable kind.

The entity which offers insurance is called an insurer and the entity who buys insurance is called insured. The insured pays a small premium to the insurer, in return for covering a major loss. Establishments in this industry may provide expertise in a range or in specific areas of law, such as criminal law, corporate law, family and estate law, patent law, real estate law, or tax law.
