Starships are designed with the Classic Traveller format, using High Guard Shipyard v1.13 written by Andrea Vallance.

The Ashigaru class Q-ship is an anti-piracy starship.

Description (Specifications)

Main Section: The design is equipped with a military grade Model/6 fib computer adjacent to the bridge. There are Spartan accommodations with double occupancy for the star mercenary crews in 48.5 staterooms. The crew 93 sophonts consists of the command division with 11 personnel, an engineering division of 22, the gunnery division with 39, 14 are assigned to the service division and 7 to internal security. Manned by crews working for Starmerc Kleine, they were paid bounties for cargo delivered intact and enemy shipping destroyed.

Basic Ship Characteristics

Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (of ten craft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (thousands of tons) where necessary. [1]

Hull Specifications

Hull / Engineering: Designed around a 7,000 dTon partially streamlined close structure hull and is is fitted with fuel scoops and the onboard fuel purification had to be removed to make room for weapons and armor. The hull has been massively braced with internal supports and stronger bulkheads to yield the equivalent of factor three armor. The class is fitted with Droptanks capable of supporting an additional jump 1 for extended range operations and were fitted to get them into position and a jump 1 reserve would be used to escape the scene of the ambush with the screening commercial vessels. They have sufficient capacity to run the power plant for 2 weeks. They are capable of 1G constant acceleration and have no agility rating.

Armament Specifications

Armament: The internal bracing was required for the spinal gun carriage for the massed array of serial mounted meson acceleration cyclotrons. The low weapon signature of the meson gun came as quite a surprise to enemy crews. Confident in the best TL–11 battleships, with thick armor thought almost immune to nuclear strikes and particle accelerator hits, the sudden rash of internal explosions which seemed to ignore the hull armor, came as quite a shock to enemy crews. Every effort was made to ensure no enemy forces survived these early encounters in 5606. Preserving the element of surprise was vital to demoralizing enemy commanders who expected to maul civilian convoys.

Fitted with the biggest meson gun that would fit, crude nuclear dampers and meson screens help shield from enemy missile salvos and hide which vessels in the “helpless” merchant convoy is carrying the meson weapon. They retain the adorable single plasma gun turret of their civilian merchant forebearer and the nine triple sand caster turrets massed into a single battery to ward off enemy lasers and missiles. Once the trap is sprung and stragglers must be finished off lest they try and escape, the four converted cargo holds open up with the equivalent of heavy missile bays to saturate stunned and confused foes. The squadron tended to travel together, trying to lure enemy main combatants into decisive engagements. The ten meson guns would produce enough internal hits and explosions to assassinate the Magada class Battleships leased to the Worlds of The Leader. The shocked military advisers would never live to report. The fact that these 95,000 ton battleships usually traveled alone, as squadron leaders for weaker World of the Leader patrol squadrons, helped. Their low speed, short range and absent agility made them vulnerable in a protracted fight. Surprise was essential, EM masking was necessary to hide the power signature of the massive reactors installed to power the meson gun.

History & Background (Dossier)

The Ashigaru class Q-ship was designed and built in the Ras Tennol (world) system. The Ashigaru Class Q Ship is a Q-ship based on the harmless civilian Reynolds Meyers Briggs class Heavy Merchants. There are already 10 in service.

Class Naming Practice/s & Peculiarities

They are nicknamed by all crew in the local tongue for a word which roughly translated means to hemorrhage or to have internal bleeding.
